Bong! Brake pads ... and a query

BONG ... brake pads. Via indy, of course. Next Thursday.

Should I leave the choice to him?

Then, a query. The Vehicle Status says 'New pads due in 15,000/25,000 miles', so why is there also an unremovable warning on the display saying I should have them renewed immediately?

:?

Usually an unremovable brake pad warning is caused by the sensor wearing through…which takes priority over the predicted warnings..

I’ve started moving to the new ‘ceramic’ compound pads from folks like Brembo and Textar…

Wear rates are lower plus a marked reduction in dust..but more pricey..

Could be any number of reasons.
Scored discs wearing pads out quicker, driving style more aggressive. Broken sensor, they are quite brittle.
Perhaps fiddled about by previous owner or mechanic.
Perhaps reset at half life by someone.

The difference between ceramic and OE pads is very noticeable.
EBC redstuff are excellent pads, part ceramic, low dust, great feel and progressive 'bite'.
You will hear people say they wear out your discs, I have had them for 10k miles no wear on new discs at all.
A huge advantage with the ceramic compounds are the lack of general iron in the mix. Its hot iron particles released from the pads under braking that burn into your wheel laquer and discolour it.
