Bodywork and Detailing

The car needs a good clean and I still havent got around to sorting the various small dinks and scratches on her since purchasing last August. Under close inspection today there are quite a few niggly stone chips, a couple of tiny stone dents and few scratches (including a couple of deeper ones and a particularily long key scratch on rear boot) on the body work. Add to that some areas of scratchy swiriling I think the time has come to get her properly sorted.

When I bought from Blacklines he recommeded Specialised Paintwork in Reading. Reckon that will be about £800 through them and they're not the closest to me. Did contact them a few months ago but cant get to see them in order for them to assess unless its a Saturday morning.

Question is, can anybody recommend the best way forward for me? Get the scratches and dents sorted before a professional detail? Or would paint correction session do the trick (KDS Detailing n Kent?). Want to get her sorted. Bit fed up of her not looking her best. Even though I bought the car with the intention of sorting just havent got around to it.

Another option would be chips away then detail.

Any help, advice or recommendations appreciated. Im in south east London.

Oh, and any before after pics following recommendations would be a bonus too

I'd go for the respray of the affected parts as a detail won't do anything for the stone chips, dents or deep scratches...even wet sanding won't do much, so bodyshop is the best option. Then look at what's left and then decide on a detail...

Thanks Nick. There are quite a few small areas all over the car so if respray the best option to each of those areas? Just concerned about matching when they're all over the place! For instance:

- Boot scratch approx 15cms
- Usual front end stone chips
- Swirling/light scratches, mainly on bonnet
- Deep nicks/small dents on front wing
- Stone chips on each side valance sections
- Tiny dimple on roof and door
- Small nicks to rear bumper

As youll see from the above, Im sort of halfway between proper respray-affected-area option and halfway between detailing/paint correction.

Well make sure they spray the bonnet into the side wings, as would any good workshop would, and the same with the rear boot, into the rear wings....all I all, I would say think about £1000 to make your car perfect.

Its a lot of money, but I think my car needs the same amount spent on it, to get it back to showroom condition. By way of a new bumper, respray of the bonnet and a detail.

Sounds about where Blacklines was coming from when he said he'd spoken to Specialised Paintwork. Maybe I'll try and get over to them on a day off or early on Saturday morning. Thanks again Nick.

And if anybody else has any good bodyshop recommendations near me I'd be grateful of the advice.

I know a great one in Twickenham, a little far for you though

Mate, this Twick place has done work on about 7 cars I've owned, and do a great deal for cash. Price for your info. Front and rear bumpers, £200 each, the bonnet £500.....
