I bet my lowly £6k car is as precious to me as your £30k one is to you. I'd certainly understand if anyone didn't want to risk it but to me it's the whole point of going.

Its not about it being precious, which it is tho, its about it being fecking expensive to fix and the value knocked off for any serious damage! As for its only rain (another post), that rain makes tyres leave the tarmac and that's why I'll make my decision on the day, you only need one nob to think he's mansell and floor it to take out several cars as he leaves a corner!

We're all sensitive about these cars, otherwise we wouldn't own them, no need to apologise. I'm just a bit worried the car might get damaged when its not insured on a track, same as most here tbh. If we all felt the same I'm sure the day would go well. However we all know that not all Z4 owners are as careful as us lot, and think they're the best drivers ever only to lose it on a corner. I'd love to take part, but there's no way I'm paying hundreds out on insurance to do so. I'm sure the day will be eventful enough :)
 
I think people have got a rather unrealistic expectation as to how fast this parade lap will be. If there are 250 Zeds on track it will be a bit like the M1 during peak rush-hour! You'll do well to get up to 60mph I reckon !
 
Frankly, even a bang from someone over 10mph is going to cost me a lot of money... I quite like the car the shape it is. The more cars on track, the more likely, no matter the speed, of something going wrong.
 
On a lighter note, check out the long range forecast... at least for the Saturday I'm there the weather might be quite nice! (Though I'm coming down Friday so will be looking for a jet wash before I get to silverstone)...

You thinking you might get lucky? Bring the transit van like you normally do....just be sure to check that the women are women, as I am sure some of them female petrol heads, you can't be sure!! :poke:
 
I think people are worrying to much , iam sure it going to be fine and probably set at a very low pace . Maniac what you need is a wing man to keep an eye out for you :driving: we all Could form a safe zone around you If you like :D

Oooh harsh ... Should be fine that way on, you need to go much further north to see the female les dawson's :rofl:

On another note, does anyone know if there will be on-site detailing or at least car washing facilities? I'd like the car to be clean ish, and its not likely without a wash after travelling from Manchester to MK in the rain the prior day. I've looked around MK and there are detailers but they're costly just for a wash, and there's no way I'm using a contact wash at a garage etc..

If its sunny, I'll get the top down and have the other half stand in the passenger seat pointing at cars that get too close... point and shame :lol:
 
I have decided my "shotgun" for the day will bring one. If everyone else does the same and we drive carefully around the circuit in an atmosphere of fear and distrust, staring down the barrel of each others' 12 bores, we'll all be careful to keep our distance.

After the lap we can all go back to being chums again.... *waits for "except for the coupe/roadster/E89" comments* :)
 
My insurers have just got back - not insured on Silverstone track - but am going on there come rain or shine.

Anyone who wants to go in front of me will be safe in the knowledge I will stay well away from their chuff, anyone who wants to do the same behind would b very welcome
 
I think if all the forum members stick together we should be ok. We all love our cars and none of us are dick heads

I'm sure any incidents would be confined to the non track area - and circa 250 witnesses could be relied upon to confirm ;)

Thank you for your enquiry about the Silverstone Classic

I have spent the day on site at Silverstone reviewing the situation there

The British Grand Prix is an extremely large event with an audience of 125,000 on the Sunday alone, with most of them on the outfield. The Classic is growing, but not yet that large, with a total audience over the weekend of around 80,000, and with most people and most activities taking place on the infield. There are sufficient hard standing car parks to deal with our requirements. The infield has not been affected badly by the weather or the crowds, and there is no reason to believe that the Classic could be cancelled.
There are a few puddles here and there, which may result in a few classic car displays being moved position, but we believe the event will almost completely take place as planned.
