BMW Z4M Wheels Style 224

The going rate is different to a set of brand new wheels which from the original tyres have never been used vs a set with unknown milage how many refurbs etc

I think they are probably worth a bit of a premium over a set of 18 year old wheels with unknown history.

Think of it another way, if you cracked an alloy which I have on my Mini Clubman JCW one wheel from BMW was £800.

Dont see many "as new" on the market often just depends on where you see value.
 
I've been in contact with the seller and agreed £800 plus £75 shipping.

Looking forward to brand new m224's on my coupe!
 
Considering a dealer price for a new set is over £2200, that is not bad.
 
Yeah sure, will post some when fitted and a half decent day to take a pic or two,

I'm going to see how the original tyres fair. Apparently no cracks and have been stored indoors.
As CliveN stated, not necessarily for the bin.

I've read that some non M Z's i've had no problem with the fronts rubbing but others suggest when the time comes to change the tyres that 215 section is the way to go?
Also to align a bit more with the rears a bit of space at the front might be in order? 5/10 cm?

I'm guessing original wheel bolts will work in the meantime without spacers?
 
I don't think you should have any rubbing issues now on the fronts with 225 tyres, although M tyres are a higher profile, 225/45 rather than 225/40 on non-Ms. But 224 front wheels are 8J x 18 ET42. I ran a set of E89 wheels on my second 3.0Si and the fronts were 8J x 18 ET29 and with 225/40 tyres I didn't get any rubbing on standard M-Sport suspension. 224s will only sit 5mm further out than 108s/MV2s, etc. Those wheels I had sat 18mm further out!

The original bolts should be fine.

I was also contemplating 245 for the rear although that might be a bit stretched on a 9.5?

I do Like the look of your previous I think 295 style wheels but they must be as rare as hens teeth, never see them for sale.
 
The 224 rears are 9J so a 245 may work, but might look a bit stretched.

Those 295s were only offered on the 35is and most buyers seem to have gone for 19s. I actually bought them on here from a 35is owner who wanted 19s and had found a set of Style 230 wheels that looked the same but were 19s!
 
I have 224 on my E85 and they are okay, the back wheels are a little out but not too bad. 225/40 front and 245/40 rear, they look okay to me. I have a photo in this month’s competition if you want to see how they look. The fronts could do with maybe a 5mm spacer but I worry about the steering being messed up.

Liking all the 224´s there.

Yes suspension dynamics with offsets and spacers, rotating mass and alignments are a deep subject...
 
If you aren't happy with how it drives after you fit them a 4 wheel alignment might be a good idea.

My car came with coil-overs and had been slammed, plus it had 19" CSL Style wheels with spacers for extra rubbing. :o

Got the ride height raised, binned the spacers and fitted 224s then got an alignment done and it was totally transformed. :D

Might be worth checking your track rod ends aren't seized before the alignment though- mine both had to be replaced so it wasn't the cheap exercise I was hoping for!

Yes an alignment would be nice to do anyhow.

I suspect a little suspension refresh might be looming with 100,000 miles now being passed.
Also thinking some extra camber might be in order after some reading here especially if the next suspension sits a little lower than stock sport.
 
Well glad to say the 224's on Friday.
They all look great apart from one front wheel has
a few small chips to outer edges.

Alistair could you please reply to my pm sent on the day of receipt of the wheels .
They were described as immaculate and you further stated that before the deal was done.

Look forward to hearing back. Maybe a smart repair could be done.

That’s really a shame, I have a similar issue albeit with a much cheaper item but from a longstanding member rather than a newbie. I think I would want to see wheels in the flesh if buying and even get them spun up to see they were round. Seller was clearly misleading us on these it seems.
I hope you can get them fixed up for a reasonable cost.
