Looks like they are the original tyres, which ties in with the never used statement. Dot codes i think are 06 for 3 of them and 07 for one, so 18 and 17 years old, impressive :D

OK, I want the wheels - I've been waiting for a set of 224s to come up for some time. It sounds a lot like the tyres are no good though, I think you'd be brave putting 18 year old tyres on a performance car. Given that I would need to get some new tyres or swap my existing ones across, I can offer £850? I would need them shipping, but happy to pay for that if you're OK to package them up.

It's the original tyres, never used, so full tread. All 06 so yes 18 years...

They've been sitting in my garage for 12 years so, I'd prefer to wait at a few weeks and see if anyone offers closer to the asking price :D

Those tyres will definitely need changing.
Recommended maximum age for a tyre is 8 years old.
Ive just changed a full set of PS4S just because they had a date of 2017

You are mad!
£850 for a set of used wheels, any wheels, (plus delivery costs) with unusable tyres is VERY VERY good money.
It's a tiny market you are aiming at, remember, aswell.

+1 :idunno:

FWIW I'd say £850 is a generous offer for a set of 224s with unusable tyres. :o

I bought a set of used 224s with usable tyres for £350 in 2020 and got the wheels stripped and powder coated for £300 so they were good as new for £650.

£850 is a very generous offer. Wouldn’t have put them face down on the drive though

Thanks for the feedback guys, sounds like I've been a bit hasty, and I'm not one to look a gift horse in the move

Happy to accept the original offer from Ben if it still stands

The tyres are really only still on to protect the rims, and the width of the tires means the tyres never touched the drive

Otherwise I’ll take them for £600 based on previous sales.😊

Honestly, £600 is about what a decent presentable set of 224s with useable tyres has been going for on this forum and on eBay over the last few years. These wheels are immaculate but without tyres. I think I got a bit excited yesterday because I've not seen any come up for sale for a little while, and given that I'd need to get them shipped and then get the tyres removed and disposed of, I'll withdraw my previous offer. I'll keep an eye on this thread though and may dive in again later on.

After all that?

Let's just say a few other opportunities have opened up as a result of this thread.

I have said it before but I will say it again…. Tyre life and condition is dependent on usage and storage conditions. A set of 15 year old tyres will be (granted) past their absolute best but could easily be much much better than those that are three years old that have suffered innumerable heat cycles and difficult weather conditions. I have a car with 24 year old tyres on it. I go to my mot station every year thinking I must change the tyres…. And he says no need - the blocks are still soft and there is no cracking. And I hammer this car (albeit with 80bhp) and it rides, stops and handles as well as it ever did. My NSX (not as much power as a M but still circa 300 bhp) has 13 year old tyres and these too are as soft as you like and are perfectly fine. It’s not cost - I would be daft to risk a £100000 car for £600 tyres but it’s just not necessary in my case. The reason - for the most part, the cars are in mid humidity stable temperature garage with car covers on. For the wheels/tyres for sale here you need to assess not dismiss. They could be fine. Admittedly some cars need the best tyres you can get because the handling is on the edge anyway and if you drive a ZM hard you would probably want fresh tyres but as a starter set no problems in my view.
