Hi all,

I am on the lookout for a Z4M Coupe.

Having previously owned one as a daily driver back in 2014 I am now looking for one as my second car.

All considered, looking for the best car I can get with a 15k budget.

Thanks

Stuart

With respect, a budget of circa £15k for a Z4MC, I suspect that with every & all due respects - you may struggle to grab a cared for and cherished, as well as - low miler car :?

...More like, something that's north of 80K on the miles and readily in need of a decent Insp2; brakes; tyres, etc etc...

Might I suggest, stretching your slim / tight budget, to something along the lines of:

An extra few £K's can acquire you a far more cared for; sorted & lower mileage car..

Good luck with the search

Well, mine is available for £14k, Insp2 less than 500 miles ago, new Michelin Pilot Supersports all around, new brakes last year, suspension totally revised with Powerflex bushes all around inc Rtabs, powerflex rear camber arms and BC Coilovers. Even the wheels were refurbished last year.

I’m actually going to pick it up today from Autoinn ( https://www.autoinn.co.uk/ ), it’s been in storage with them for 6 months while I was out out of the country.

I doubt you will find a more cherished one for the money, but it does carry 127.000 miles on the clock. I bought it with 83k, 5 years ago.

It’s been put up for sale when I left the country in October last year, now I’m back so if you are interested act quickly ‘cause I might change my mind after driving it today😂

I think the Z4MC market has good intentions of trying to prop up prices but the truth is they haven't become the classic they were touted to be.

Mike's car is a really nice example which I viewed Autumn 2018 but still has not sold. I don't think it's the car, it's the price, and the world in 2020 has destroyed the value of niche cars like these even more so.

Keep the faith OP I think you will get a good car for the budget, and as Gustavo said high miles and meticulously maintained is still a really good option - and red is such a good colour for a Z4MC!!!

Ill sell mine sapphire black with black leather, fsh, 117k miles, every option bar extended leather for £11k

Its JUST had an oil service and i think inspection 1 is due next.

Im in Leeds.

It's why I'll probably keep my high-miler until I simply have to sell, and then I think I'd strip it for parts.

There's no way I'll get good value back for her despite the thousands I've spent reconditioning everything in the last 20,000 miles (new clutch & flywheel, new diff, engine replacement, new suspension, 4-pot brakes all round, strut brace, etc.).

It's worth a lot more to me as a 2nd car (was a daily driver) than it would be to anyone who simply sees it as a 14 year-old, 160+ thousand mile Z4MC in muddy brown.

Other than being 'cash on the drive' it wont cost me a lot to have it sitting there - £200/year insurance, £57/month VED when it's not SORNed, oil service before & after big trips, brake fluid and Inspection 1 every year. Probably less than £1500 a year over all...plus consumables, but that will depend on miles and driving style.

Not sure what you mean by "Z4MC market has good intentions of trying to prop up prices"? But if someone thinks my car is with £x and I think it's worth £y it wouldn't be sold. The reality is and always will be; buyers want low prices, sellers want high prices and you are probably a buyer, hence your post.

I agree that Z4M's are probably not out and out classics yet but the last ever S54, full M Division car with a manual gearbox and low sales volumes point towards it becoming one someday.

No doubt the current state of the worlds economies will affect values of all cars until the recovery, you may find distressed sellers who have to sell at lower prices in the near future, I reckon the remainder of 2020 may throw up some bargains.

BTW, I see you are from my neck of the woods, once lock down is lifted I'm planning a mid-Wales run, if you'd like to come along and check out my Z4MC you're more than welcome.

Well in the current uncertain situation you might find one in budget OP.

I bought mine just before last Christmas on 76K that was being sold by a forum member for £14K. Although it's recent Inspection 2 cost me another £1,000 by the time a few other issues were dealt with.

Good luck with the search.

I drove an M around Llandow 3 years ago and think they make an affordable muscle car, but actually prefer the 3.0 and am thinking about one post lockdown for 6-7k. I looked at a couple of M's in 2018 but ended up with a Cayman S which was newer for the same cash. Luckily sold it just before Christmas cos they have slumped in the last 8 weeks too.

My point was there are lots of people advertising at optimistic prices but the cars aren't selling, so they can either sit on them or they accept the loss. Supply and demand means values are set more by the bottom half of the market than the top half. Once you can't get one that's not crashed/broken/scruffy for under a certain price, it becomes the baseline.

Car values are subjective and they are all different condition, but it's hard to attract a buyer at say 20k+ when cars that look similar on paper are available (and not selling either) for much less...
