BMW Z4 Roof not working

Decent code reader like BMW INPA or BMW Scanner 1.4 will read the roof module and display any codes set for the system so that may pinpoint where the fault is for you. If the windscreen motor is not functioning may be broken wire in there, noticed a few with that have cropped up. Have to take the trim off to check the wiring loom inside the top of the windscreen. Good job you had the main motor relocated to the boot makes it easier to check that end of things.

Would you recommend one of the scanners you mentioned more than the other? For a 2007 E85 that is.

BMW INPA is good but a pain to get loaded on a laptop to work correctly, BMW Scanner 1.4 also on a Laptop is far easier to use and good to read all modules your car has fitted. The software and emulator is cheap on ebay, you will also need the 20pin to 16pin OBD gender changing cable to plug into the underbonnet diagnostic socket on models like the Z3 but on a Z4 it will work plugged into the 16pin OBD socket in the cabin. Even cheaper option is to use a ELM327 OBD2 emulator and an App on your phone such as Torque which will read and clear codes and allow viewing of live data from the engine with sets of graphs or guages, again available on ebay and the App from usual on line app stores to download the App. I use all three options but BMW Scanner is my first choice.
 
Hi, has anyone rebuilt roof motor or replaced just the motor portion, not the hydraulic top section? Replacing motor but have a question about it. When I took motor assembly apart there is a yellowish plastic ring set in the top of the motor with 8 half holes on it. The replacement motor pics I’m seeing don’t have that rotating disc. It sits on a center spindle. Any info would be awesome. I’m new here if you hadn’t noticed!

Due to a last minute trip not having the time to replace switch myself. Called Dealer they fit me in. All in under 200.00 USD. They replaced switch, resolved my headlight issue, washed car and cleaned out my roof drains. Dealer stated if I used them for my Oil changes they would clean out roof drains at no cost. So with oil changes every 3-3.5k my drains should be clean for a long time. :D

Cleaning out the roof drains won't help if there is already water in the motor housing as it'll stay there slowly corroding away the motor.
