Hello knowledgable people.

I have recently bought a BMW Z4 (2003 3.0) and cannot stand the reversing BEEP BEEP BEEP.

Please can anyone tell me how i can disable the beeping noise. The reversing sensor isnt too bad but the actual beeping that tells me im reversing (as if i didnt already know) is really annoying.

Im happy to get my hands dirty
Im happy to remove a plug (if someone can tell me where it is (and it doesnt have any other side effects)
or im happy to try a sequence of button pressing etc.

Please someone HELP .......

Cheers Dean

If you try pulling the handbrake up (just a click or so) it will make a noise for that, then if you put it down again it might stop all the noises, can't remember if that works any more?

Im sure somewhere has had to do this on here...

can defo be turned off cos mines never done it...

Ill do a quick search...

Drop the panel above the drivers knees where you see the ODB2 port. 3 self tappers.
Inside you will see a sounder with 2 connections. Pull the one out that causes the horrible 'gong' sound. Test in reverse you got the right one.
Tie the cable up - job done

I'd love to shut off the annoying seat belt chime, not because I drive without the belts, but usually I start the car 1st then buckle up. It's still annoying. Is this located in the same place? And for those of us with left hand steering wheel, is the beeper on the passenger side (R), or drivers side (L)?

Never looked for the seatbelt sounder, but as a guess it's probably linked the the same sounder with the second connector that does things like the user speed limit warning, but just a guess.

No idea of it's swapped side on the LHD cars - look under the panel and it should have visible perforations for it.

Is you quite sure about that - cos on my car you can drive at least 100yds until the bloody thing kicks off...never worked out if its detecting distance or speed though TBH.

Of course you could be REALLY naughty and chop a seat belt clip off an old belt and stick that in the slot, errr....temporarily...

I saw a thread on a US beemer site on this once and you'd think the poster had suggested eating a baby or something....it was hysterical!

So if you're minded, please don't bother - I passed my test not wearing one..... :oldman:

but never heard a reverse chime...sure the OP hasn't left the handbrake on? :P

That is odd... My 2007 M does only beep when approaching an object. The 2006 M I had didn't even have a beep for reversing...

Nope - I can concur with OP that when programmed by BMW there is a terrible 'bong' 'bong' sounder inside the car until out of reverse. Nothing to do with parking sensors. Truly hideous noise.

Good point abou the seatbelt alarm as I reverse out of the garage every day and park it without the seatbelt on. The warning only activates after 100m or so.

What can be programmed to work, can also be programmed to not to work...

My dealer even managed to program my xenon headlights and corona's to be turned off automatically when the key is out of the ignition...

for sure wooter - I think is the instance of th reversing 'bong' in the UK market it is not something that is set as standard so a previous owner must have requested it.

I though the headlights went off automatically with the key out, or even turned off - mine do

I must be lucky because I don't have the reverse bing-bong. Probably just broken...

Thought I had an issue with my seat belt warning alarm at the weekend. Stopped to buy some milk, got back in the car, belted up and drove off. Seat belt alarm went off. Checked my clip, all in securely. Took me another couple of hundred metres to realise it was the weight of the carton of milk that'd tricked the passenger side seat into thinking someone was sitting in it and hadn't belted up

Cheers guys, having been new to Z4's and to the site / forum the help provided above has been great.

THANKS Dean

Ps any good tuning or mod suggestions get in touch, im dying to customise my 3.0 Z4 a bit, i might try the one touch remote roof opener ?!!.
