BMW Z4 Replacement Xenon Bulb Minefield!

One of my xenon lights has given up the ghost, it's definitely the bulb and not the ballast.

Thought it'd be a straightforward replacement job but it's a minefield out there!

The current ones are marked Philips D2S, now looking online there's Philips Xenon Vision D2S, Philips Xenon X-Treme Vision D2S and Philips Xenon White Vision D2S.

Then you have "Philips D2S" on eBay ranging from £20 for a pair, right upto £80 for a single bulb.

What have other people gone with? And are the cheaper ones any good? I was thinking of giving these a try?

Cheers guys!

I bought a pair of £15 cheap ones off ebay. They have been going strong for the last 7 months. You can tell the difference in quality when you compare them.

I would make an educated guess that anything branded Philips for £20 a pair is not genuine.

It's all marketing and slight differences for those of the same brand. You can use anything that's a D2S burner, but you should replace in pairs.

I paid £45 for a pair of Philips DS2 bulbs from eBay last year. Still working great, but the seller is no longer on there so I can't link you up to them.

Fit a pair as they will never match as they age and when one goes you can be sure the other will follow quickly

Well today was MOT time, I thought I'd get there a bit earlier and get the guy to fit my replacement bulbs to save messing about. Drivers side wouldn't work, swapped bulbs and ballasts around again which prove both sides are working fine. Also swapped fuses around and these are fine too.

Does this point towards the igniter or could it be something else? I noticed the headlight had water sitting in it, which I've now drained out.

Absolutely fuming, I'm supposed to be heading up to Scotland next week for a 1500 mile road trip. A headlight out of action wouldn't normally be an issue but I need to get this sorted so I can MOT (and tax) it before I go.

Cheers mate, I'm just praying I can get it sorted in time before I go.

As for the ballast / igniter, from looking online these are the same thing?

I should be testing the "Xenon Headlight Control Unit" next?
