BMW z4 key not working tried everything

Hi guys

Apologies for jumping on this thread but I'm having key fob issues too.

Recently bought a 2003 e85 that owner had had for 8 years. He had 2 keys. Both locked/unlocked and started the car manually. Central locking switch in the car works as it should. He said that during his ownership only 1 had worked by fob and then stopped working over time.

I assumed batteries so I soldered 1 in myself and sent the other to an ebay key guy.

On its return I tried pairing the keys (3 methods) to the car...nothing doing.

Then I thought that there may be a rear view mirror antenna issue (similar thing happened to my daughters mini so this proved to be an easy fix).

I ordered a 2nd hand mirror on ebay and put it in the car. Tried pairing and then something odd happened. The key that I had soldered locked the car. Wouldn't open it or the boot but it locked it.
The ebay key still doesn't work.

When I lock the car with the soldered fob the car locks, lights flash and the red light on the rear view mirror starts flashing. The unlock button still doesn't work, so I manually open the drivers door, the lights flash and there's a barely audible chirp until I put the key in the ignition and turn it.

I swapped the rear view mirror over to my original one to double check and neither keys work.

Put the ebay mirror back in and my soldered key locks the car......so the mirror is involved but the rest of it is a mystery.

Not sure if the previous owner has disconnected anything but I expected the alarm to be pretty loud when I set it off. As I said...it was barely a chirp.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Steve

I’m having the same issue with my key; I’ve had the batteries replaced in both keys thinking it was that but it wasn’t. My next step would be to have the GM5 module repaired or replaced

Did you manage to fix this?

Not yet. Been working away so hoping to drop back onto it in a few days. Need to find out why the alarm isn't sounding when triggered. Currently have both keys sat on toothbrush charger 😂
