BMW Z4 E85 LCM

Hello Everyone,
I just bought a BMW Z4 E85 2003 3.0i (non-M) and have been facing a few issues since I bought it. It is my first BMW car. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that after turning off the car the brake lights were still on and a few times the battery drained. I changed the brake light switch (through Youtube) but still, the issue was there. I went to a mechanic and he said your LCM (light control Module) is acting up and you should get a new one. I ordered a new one from eBay and I was telling my friend who owns an E46 330i, he told me that I need this new LCM to be coded or else it won't work.
can someone guide me on what the main issue is? Does this new LCM really need to be coded? if yes, how much will it cost?
Thanks in advance.

Hello. The lcm should work ok but it holds info on the car mileage or vin so you will get a tamper light on the dash. This will need to be coded out by updating the details in the new lcm. Maybe a dealer job?

You should be able to code the module to your car using NCS Expert or Winkpf software that comes with the INPA diagnostics packages that are sold on ebay for use on a laptop. If you post where you are located you may have someone nrear you with the software that can do the coding.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to read of your issues but hopefully you can get them sorted, but don't forget we like to see photos!

Don't think a dealer will code a used part. But they will be very happy to supply and fit a brand new, and extortionately-priced, unit of course

If a dealer won't do it a BMW Indy probably will, and will charge less too!

Thank you guys for the replies.
I put the new LCM and it's working thou the temper light is there. Took it to the dealership and they said they can't code the used part you need to buy a new one part is $479.11+ tax and coding charges is $370+ tax.(which is alot for me as i am a sophomore student). Someone told me there are guys who can do remote coding if anyone of you can refer me someone it would be great.
I am located in Dayton Ohio.
