BMW Z4 E85 2003 Few issues - lights and drivers window

Hello, new to here but I'm at a loose end and i am looking for a bit of help.

As per title iv acquired a z4. Iv repaired the majority of faults but I'm stuck on 2 things

The headlights don't work. Side, main and indicators work fine. Its just the driving/ headlight that doesn't.
I have power to the actual light unit but no power from ballast to bulb so I'm assuming its that? Is there a budget way around this? When looking on eBay i can see a few hid kits which include ballasts - do these bypass the original ballasts on bottom of the lights???

Second of all, after looking into why the drivers window doesn't drop fully, i noticed that all the wires are frayed and splitting. When looking at tutorials at how to replace the regulator, not one mentions that the regulator is actually riveted to the bottom of the door. Assuming i have to drill this out in order to replace reg? Anyone else come across this? Also, could i just buy a repair kit for the wire off eBay and repair in situ? Also, the how to doesn't explain that the plastic casing is riveted to the housing which holds the reel - i have to drill this also???

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance

Not sure about your headlights, but I have just changed my window regulator its all bolted, no welds, there are two covers over the bolt holes on the bottom of the door.

Not as easy as everyone makes out though as its impossible to get the black housing off without snapping it to pieces

If you can work it out and post up a how-to, you'll be a forum hero.

Sooooo why do they sell repair kit when its impossible to do lol

It's not impossible but I've watched the YouTube demonstration video (have you seen it?) and still can't work out what the hell to do.

I need to do this on mine so if anyone does a how-to would be muchly appreciated. At the moment, I think I am just going to get a new regulator as I have heard the cable replacement is a PITA.
