BMW Z4 CONVERSION TO Z4 M ?

as i read the first post he is going to look at one allready done (advertised as converted) and wants the list of differences to check if its just a cosmetic job (badges and tail pipes) or its been done properly
it would have to be very cheap to tempt me as i cant imagine its an easy thing to sell

guys i would like first to thank you all for answering my questions.

as alfamale noticed i said that i don't want to do it, someone else has done it and now he sells this converted Z4 car.
I need just to advise me what i can check to see if the car is worth buying.

A simple z4 3.0 liter here in greece costs something between 13.000 euros to 25.000 euros. The Z4M costs something between 34000 and 40000 euros. Importing one starts from 45.000 with the taxes if the car costs around 23000 to buy it from Germany...

I have talked with the guy who has the car and he told me that he bought a crashed BMW Z4M and transferred the things to his car.
He has changed suspensions, rear diff, rear suspensions, rear bumper, front bumper, 19 inch wheels, rear brakes, hydraulic steering, ECU, front brakes, engine, badges, whole exhaust system, steering wheel.
Maybe there are more but those he have told me and since i didn't know what else to ask i said ok fine.

So the basic question remains. Does it worth it for 25.000? And it can be the same as an M technically and mechanically or it will have problems? And what i have to check before buying it?

have you checked insurance?

i assume it still would not be classed as an M, so it would need to be insured as a 3 litre with many mods

i may be wrong though

taz sorry but i don't know how the insurance companies work there. here they work with what is on the license. however this is the last that troubles me. the difference between an M and 2.5 is small in the cost of the insurance.

would it not be cheaper buying an M rather than trying to mod up to one ? but like i said if you like Z4,s buy one ! i still love mine as much now as the first day i got him ! and when you get yours well its up to you what you do with it ! just be warned the modding route is a very expensive and never ending road ! lol god knows how much i spent on my tt !

That conversion certainly looks decent, it's basically a home built M so I personally would stay away! I prefer my cars made by qualified professionals... Surely you'd be better off settling for a lesser powered zed and adding a few choice mods (e.g. lsd) instead?

sounds very dodgy to me.. adding a supercharger and lsd to a 3.0 maybe but buying an M and swapping bits over, surely you'd sell the 3.0 and pay to repair the M

tj would you mind to tell me how did you understand that this is a home made M? what have you seen!? i ask because i am not an expert and o cant have a clear opinion about this!

billy what dodgy means? sorry but i cant understand the english so good!

I think I'd rather have a good honest 3.0 for the 25k price. Although this car does look to be very well done, you are going to face the same questions when you come to sell it.

In short...don't buy it. This is a bad idea, no way you'll recoup your money. Better off buying the real thing as Wondermike says.

billy after the help of ga41 i understand what you say. but you have to consider that things are very different here than in your country. if we import a car from Germany or Uk(for countries outside EU is even worse) you pay something like 60-70% of the car value to taxes, depends on the model the year the km and many parameters. That makes the z4m around 35k to 40k to import it with start up price 20k. If though you import it as parts and scrap, you pay much much less....
So it is logical to be done this way, but if it is done the right way is a different story.
I think we must be the only EU country that pays for car import taxes so much money, but this is another topic. :headbang:

Not only in Greece my friend. Here in Cyprus it's even worse because we not only have very high taxes but the only places we can import used cars from is either from the UK or from Japan.....

OK makes a little more sense.. well if the insurance is a good price then do it, but just hang on to it for a long time

Have to say a genuine /M is quite a beast, I think I'd lack confidence that it was built correctly, even if it was..

Also I'd be interested in how the /M was crashed.. if it wasn't that significant wouldn't they repair it?

Agreed apart from the wheels it does look good from the photos..
