ive heard that if you change the inlet manifold for one off an older bmw u gain bhp is this true if so which manifold is best for my car? many thanks

Not heard of this, the intake system on these cars is pretty good already. Be useful if you gave more details about your car though, like engine size and year.

I think the Americans have a difrent engine the n52 in the 3.0i and they swap manifolds on that to gain more power

Oops - should have read the title, sorry

The M54 engine is pre-facelift, the N52 is post facelift. In the US they N52 is restricted in some way that I can't remember so yes, changing the inlet manifold improves performance. Not sure about the M54. And in any case we are in the UK :D

No the N52 is the 2.5, 2.5si and 3.0si in the facelift Z4's in USA and Europe/UK

I seem to recall someone trying to put a 2.5si manifold on a 2.5i though along with other parts to try and increase bhp from 177 to 218. Don't think they got very far though.

Lol I was gonna say it's all there

Yup that's it they swoa the manifolds and they get si bhp or near I think

But I don't think they is any swapping to be done on the m54

I'd imagine that if BMW could have done that then they wouldn't have designed a whole new engine and gearbox :D

Some of the late 3.0i had the N52 in http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BU33&mospid=49304&btnr=11_3730&hg=11&fg=05

Any way, 3.0i (N52) to 3.0si (N52) manifold swap: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1566693

but its still no use to the OP as he dosent have that engine

Not with you on that one Bing :?

Quite common on old BM's to replace manifolds of higher CC models to increase performance. Also BMW quite often take the same engine and just detune it hence why the guy with the 2.5i thought he could tweak to get it to 2.5si spec.

Like some of the later 2.0i pre facelift models over here had the newer engine.

The point I was making was the N52 isn't just a USA engine, but maybe that's not what you were trying to say. :)

Ah, okay. I am now educated

You don't need to worry about manifolds though Bing, your issue is the missing 0.2 litres :poke:

Could I make that up by buying a 2cm thick cylinder head gasket, or maybe stacking 5 or 6 together ? :D

Sorry OP, will stop hijacking your thread now
