BMW Z4 2010 Driver's Mirror Broken

hello everyone,

The other morning I found that the driver’s side wing mirror had been completely smashed off by some errant vehicle :-(

It’s a black BMW Z4 23i, 2010 model. The glass piece is electrically powered, and I think heated, but the mirror housing does not fold inwards to the car body.

Unfortunately my local BMW dealer (Liverpool) has quoted £600 + VAT to replace this humble part... I’m desperately hoping that it’s possible to get the part cheaper and then just fitted by a decent garage. I've hunted about online and have to admit I'm getting nowhere fast!

Any pointers, ideas or suggestions very much appreciated.

thanks,
ross

p.s apologies in advance if I am posting in the wrong place or have committed some other heinous netiquette sin :-)

The replacement wing mirror unit is about 180 GBP - which is the bit with the arm that bolts on to the body and contains the motor

the unit comes with the shell, motor and bracket. but the shell is unfinished - can you re-use your current one? so youll have to get it painted otherwise

to fit it you are meant to take of the door panel then it is just a case of plug in connector and three self tapping bolts to attach it to the body which are behind the tweeter on the door.

If you need to replace the glass, the glass alone is around 110GBP. but i think you can get non-heated replacements on ebay for a few quid. then re-use the ring from the original that holds the glass on to the body.

I wouldnt pay BMW to do this as it is a simple job.

When mine was knocked off the metal arm was snapped clean but i could reuse the glass and shell. i also didnt take off the door panel as i was stuck for time and daylight so fed the original cable through the new unit.

Ohh the only sin you have committed is not taking yourself over to the newbies section, introducing yourself and posting some pictures.

Ooppss, too many late nights this weekend.

Sorry, just realised you were asking about wing mirrors on the E89. muppet here was talking about E85......

looking on realoem:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=LM32&mospid=51401&btnr=51_7216&hg=51&fg=07

the design is pretty much the same. so i reckon what i said probably stil holds.

Looks like you can get it without the shell though.

Not sure on costs for the E89, it is going to be a case of asking the stealers.
