Bmw Z4 2009 - Idle Engine Shutdown (Rare)

This is a double question. (Sdrive 23i (2.5)

I read a forum back from 2010 that had peoples Z4's engines turning off when stopping in traffic at lights - they were fixed by taking them into BMW and a software update was made 2 weeks later that fixed the issue.

Now I've had the car for about 18 months and it does happen rarely, I wandered if by now anyone has fixed this by doing the software update themselves or where it can be obtained from. One thing I've noticed is my model doesn't have idrive and also doesn't seem to have a USB in the glove box? Should all e89 have one located there?

Looking for any info on this matter. :headbang:

Cheers.

Yea I can see the bluntness of the question :D

Hoping someone can shed light on this though. Cos there is to what I can see no USB located in the glovebox

I’ve not come across this issue on the forum before?
On what forum did you read about this? If your car has bmw service history you could contact them & ask if the “fix” was applied (whatever that was?)
Have you had the car scanned for fault codes? :?

2. Yes, but it didn't detail anything on it, in fact I have a recent BMW Service report i'll grab it tomorrow.

Worth noting that the cars in that thread do not appear to be UK models.. If thats relevant..

I assume Op doesnt mean the start stop technology..

No I don't think it can be, it's a weird one it sometime struggles when it's idle in traffic like it can sit at say 1k rev like any normal car (not approx), but then suddenly go down to 500, then shoot up to 1250 within a second, but it's very rare that it just cuts out entirely and needs to be completely turned on again.

That's a fair point about it being a different country but it so dam similar to what i'm experiencing, I guess maybe i'm being naive to think it's possible my end to do the software update the thread talks about? Although I swear to god I can't find this USB port in the glove box chaps!

Not an auto.

Has anyone here done the car software updates without the car having an idrive console?
