BMW Z4 2006 What's making this chirping sound whilst engine on?

It appears to be coming from the dash area. Mechanic took a look at the engine and said it wasn't that and seemed like something in the dash area. I took it to the garage as I noticed when coming to a stop at lights, I would have to downshift earlier than usual, failing to do so would cause the car to stall. This happened once ad the engine light stayed on in amber. I cleared the codes and it's not come back since.
Any insight would be grately appreciated.

We had a similar thing on our Ford Focus a few years ago, turned out to be the fan belt, had it changed and the noise went away.

This also sounds very like the heater fan bearings. My wife's 123D sounded exactly like that. Changed the fan and all quiet.
