Hi,

Thought I'd join the forum as my wife and I picked up our first Z4 yesterday. Its a 2004 2.5 SE.

Here are a couple of photographs. It was a bit dark when we arrived home last evening so they are not great.

So far we've not noticed any major problems with the car.

1) The reversing sensor horn occasionally emits a constant beep when reverse is engaged but the car is not near an obstacle.

2) The gear shift feels stiff and it is quite difficult to select reverse gear.

3) The hand brake has to be pulled on very hard to get the parking brake to engage enough that the car doesn't roll on a slope.

4) The CD multi-changer does not seem to be pulling the trays out from the cassette and show a No Disc error.


I'll be working my way through the forum to try and find answers to these problems but if anyone has any pearls of wisdom regarding them please do let me know.

to answer some of your issues

2) the gears are generally heavier than most other cars, its not my favorited gearbox but you get used to it
3) your not the first one to notice the handbrake doesnt work that well. it does require a good pull to lock if your on a slope and its common for the car to roll back a few inches when you take your foot off the brake before it locks.
4) sounds like your your multichanger may be broke, again a common problem, i had mine removed when i got mine so i will let someone else confirm the problem. the CD changer is outdated anyway, better to buy one of the ipod integration kits.

hope you enjoy the car though, cant beat it when the sun comes out

Sounds like 1 rear parking sensors is on its way out the best way to tell is to turn the ignition on with out starting the car put it into reverse go to the back of a car put your ear to the sensor you should hear a ticking noise if you don't hear a ticking noise the sensor is knackered

Hi and welcome :)

1. Sounds like one of the sensors is playing up.
2. You need to give reverse a hard push to engage, it's quite normal.
3. Handbrakes not the best, might just need new shoes and adjusting though.
4. CD changers can be problematic. Best to upgrade to a MP3 solution.

None are major issues, but quite common like rear spring and roof failure.
