I am looking for a BMW Z4, with super paintwork and immaculate interior for the summer with the following spec....

Year - 2006 onwards facelift model.
Engine - 2.5i engine & manual gearbox with FBMWSH
Mileage - less than 40k
Colour - Sterling Grey/Grey - maybe black or MERLOT!
Alloys - 18" (not the standard type) M sport MV3/ellipsoid/108s or like

Would also like the following goodies if possible.....

Hardtop
Sat Nav/On board computer
M Sport suspension
Nice sound system
Heated Leather seats but not RED!
Electric hood
Xenon headlights
Wind deflector
Handsfree bluetooth/ Ipod / USB connections

I have around £8-£9k to spend - if you think I'm having a laugh looking for that spec at that price then tell me to get a grip, you're the experts! I've seen some on autotrader but I hate used car salesman - they should be treated with the same regard as terrorists. Would rather buy a well looked after enthusiasts car. I am based in Lincolnshire.

Thanks for reading.

Hi and welcome.

Quite a wish list you have there. Xenons and Nav aren't very common on 2.5, other items listed are either standard or easy to add except xenons and upgraded hifi (OEM).

Thanks for the swift reply. Do you get a better spec with the 3.0 models? If so I would look at those as long as fuel consumption ain't ridiculous and it ain't too hard to drive for me!! Do you think the cash I have is enough for a car of that spec??

Ok...going to Sheffield/Yorkshire today for a mooch around. Are the wind deflectors a must on a Z4. I used to have a, dare I say it, MGF and had iced neck after a good drive! The only Z4 I've tested had them so wouldn't know what it's like without - that was a 2.0 SE, 2008 with 11k - £14000, price seemed ridiculous!

All have electric roofs, i have had one with a wind deflector and without, would say prefer the one with but i don't think it would be a deal breaker, think you would be lucky to get one with a roof, these can go for a grand so many get sold separately.

good luck with the search

Popping to see this....Even though it ain't what I want, dropping wife at Meadowhell!

Not sure about history though or the price for a 2005!

If you test a car with a deflector take it off half way through and you can tell the difference it makes.

They are costly to retrofit a proper three part oem one though.

its a very basic spec with no sat nav or m seats

Also worth noting on the prefacelift are the dates front and rear lights, with many owners wanting to change them - maybe something to bear in mind

There is a checklist on the forum, with one important check being the roof and to see if the drainage holes are clear - both face and prefacelift models are effected (whatever anyone says...)

its a 2.0 and a 2005, so not even close to what you were after.... i would put the price at 8k tops, although private sales, i have seen at 7k for that spec

Yep...very basic, very good condition though. What sound systems are there...this one had 'business cd' in it. Im guessing that has Bluetooth etc.

Good idea for potential buyers....email the list from the 'things to look for' list on the forum and send it to the owners of the cars you are interested in for them to answer. I've found for some strange reason that the cars I seem to be interested in are 100+ miles away. The questions can certainly help you to narrow down your list and make an 100+ mile journey worth while (as long as owners are truthful in their answers).

Out of a possible 5 potential cars, 2 owners have refused to answer the questions :o , one replied with its sold  and I'm still awaiting answers from two! :)

i see your slant here, but having just sold a car i would respectfully point out that rather than blanket e mailing a list of questions (not seen it, so i can't comment on how onerous it is) you tailor your queries to the car and advert in question.

there seems to be a tendency for people to buy privately and take with it the benefits (lower price, you get a feel for how the car has been looked after, bit of haggling room etc etc), but also expect the full 'dealer' treatment. nothing is more irritating than returning from a day at work to be confronted by 4 e mails all asking a variety of questions, some of which are covered in the advert.

well there is. a freezing cold saturday morning in february spent stood on your driveway while a chap in a hat with a personality by-pass goes round your car with a clipboard and then copies out all your service history in his best handwriting...another story..:)

when buying i did have what i considered a wasted journey, 5am start on a saturday, but the reality is it comes down to differing standards, the chap selling thought his car was in top nick, i didn't.

I know selling cars is frustrating. I too have just sold one and had several emails asking why I had covered up the number plate in the photos and what was I trying to hide by doing that! They are the infruiating emails. The nearest car that I was going to view was 140 miles away, I saw the email as a way of getting a good idea of what I was going to view. I have got money burning a hole in my pocket, if a seller can't take five minutes to return an email then he ain't getting my dosh! I'm not looking for full dealer treatment, just an honest transaction as there are greater risks when buying privately...one of the reasons I'm searching on here is due to the fact that you can tell the cars on here are a passion for their owners.

I will continue to hunt for my 2.5 Zed (in sterling grey or merlot)!

I will also tailor any further emails as you suggested.
