BMW Z4: 17 year old insurance

Best so far has been £9000 per year for 2.0 2007 sport.
Can get it down to £6500 with myself as additional driver (parents being main)..

Anybody know how well the tracking insurance is? Where they fit a tracker to record your millage..

Honestly, that's a ludicrous amount to insure a Z4 at. I'm 23 and insurance is still £900 for me on a 3.0i, but then again I can insure an R8 for £1350.

The most I've ever paid for insurance was my first car - £1600 for a 1.6 206.

As for the tracking - we provide the tracking service for one of the largest insurance firms that run this scheme - iKube. I can fairly safely say that they wouldn't touch a Z4 (they may do at a real push but don't quote me on that). It's just not the type of car worth going near for young people.

As said it's going to be mega expensive. My daughter got £900 iirc on an old Ka. Every trick in the book of low mileage, good postcode, 1/3 party F&T Even did pass plus. Premium still increased after test. 4 years on she's down to low hundreds.

Personally I'd run a banger for a year, save money and then get a Zed. You'll be wealthier with the savings, better driver, get a better Zed and lower premiums with ncb.

If you must get one then has to be a 2.0 and good luck :)

There is no way you can insure a Z at 17 on your own! I would be surprised if any company would quote you! And don't put your parents as the policyholder as you might as well drive with no insurance!

I second the opinion, it will be wiser!

The only way to go - ran my £1000 Micra for 4 years was the best thing I could have done.

You are either very brave, very rich or can cope with serious disappointment.

My insurance Co. stomped & squealed by increasing my insurance by £2400 at renewal on a Polo 3 months after I had put my son on it and laughed when I mentioned my other cars.

Good luck

I've just turned 21 and pay £1400 to Insure my 2008 3.0l Z4 Coupe....... on my own policy with no extra drivers.

At 18 I was driving a 2003 1.8 3 series BMW but that was pushing it back then, costing me £2200 a year to insure.

At 17 I think your dreaming! Get yourself a 1 series until you hit 21, ALOT of insurance companies wont touch a car over 120bhp until you turn 21 Is what I was always told.

Best of luck and report back if you do get lucky!

I've not hung around here for long enough to know the etiquette for 'calling troll'.......but I'm calling troll :P

I was quoted near £1400 a year last year. That was at 26!

Had a rough quote much lower (but still a fair whack at ~£600 ish) just now for when I next renew which would be 28, 5 years NCB and 9 years on the license.

Right, so I'm 17 years old, just passed my full UK car test & have 1 year no claims on my full UK motorcycle license.
I'm just wondering which insurance companies you'd recommend for a young driver for a Z4.

Any advice would be great.

Wow, wish I could have afforded a Z4 at 17, good effort and good luck with your search.

I feel it may be expensive, but that's just my gut feel

............ and moving swiftly back to the real world, something to use inbetween the mountain bike and the Z4

You'll have to watch it... CarolM will be all over this... a sporty little number in a fetching shade of yellow!

im 25 and in january im 26 but as a new driver for a z4 2.0 roadster 2003 - 2004 i get quotes over £3k £750 - £1000 excess and quotes lover then £3k is £3k excess.

Dont know what to do else then get a corsa for a year and find my lovely Z4 after :((

Well I bought my first BMW at 21 E90 320SI cost me £1100 to insure and had no no-claims as I was always insured as a named driver.

Turned 23 and bought the Z4M insured full comp with mods for £1060. But I live in a band A area, depends where you are.

I would say they wont touch you unless its a 2.0 you may even struggle there. They may quote you via comparison sights but if you ring they may not take it. I think you will be paying at least £2000 if not more. I would get something sensible until you hit the zones where insurance calm down, 21 then 25. Try and build some no claims.

Good luck

Just got my renewal in for the barge (Mazda tribute) £250 need to phone around. 3 years complimentary No Claims as new second car last year.
Z4 is just over £300 I think from last year due in January hopefully get it down again too
I'm 39 years young though which helps.
I was £1300 a year for my first car an E reg rover 216SE. when I was 17.

i have the same problem, i can get it insured with £1800 a year but it has £3000 excess and i dont know if that is good or bad??

So anyone know if he ever found a company to offer insurance @ 17 for a Z4?
