BMW Z4: 17 year old insurance

Right, so I'm 17 years old, just passed my full UK car test & have 1 year no claims on my full UK motorcycle license.
I'm just wondering which insurance companies you'd recommend for a young driver for a Z4.

Any advice would be great.

I'd call all of them.... and then play the best 2 off against each other. Make sure that you are comparing like with like though...

Direct Line were pretty good up to a point. I am now insured through Chris Knott. Having said that my Civic Type-R I got when I was 23 and my Zed was an early 26th Birthday present to myself! :D So not quite the same...

Adding your mum and/or dad to the policy should help, along with keeping the mileage as low as possible. Making sure it is garaged etc.... You can't do much about your postcode but making sure the person quoting is completely aware of how you store your car will help - Mine is parked on the driveway, by the house which is nearly 400yrs from anyone else. Explaining this helped a little and I would imagine that every little bit will help.

Good luck...

My insurance company 'Churchill' won't insure anyone under 30. This is also the case with my wife's which is 'Esure'. My wife is 28 and they agreed to put her on my policy because she has 8 yrs NCB.

in 28 & with esure...no problems quoting!?

Lol do you time travel to get to and from your Zed? 400 years from other houses?? lol

sorry Jim, was just killing time earlier when I posted. Didn't mean to come across so short.

Hi and welcome to the Forum

It's going to be expensive whoever quotes you, and depends on what Zed you go for. good luck :)

Praying my son doesn't read this post - he is forever badgering me about letting him near the zed; always tell him we can't get him insured....

Depending on where you live and which model you'd like quotes could easily run into several £000's mostly as you have no experience driving a car and are very young.....

Best so far has been £9000 per year for 2.0 2007 sport.
Can get it down to £6500 with myself as additional driver (parents being main)..

Anybody know how well the tracking insurance is? Where they fit a tracker to record your millage..

If the insurance is the same ££££ a the car's value, might be better saving your pennies until the insurance is less, and getting a better car with bigger engine and spec in a few years?

Putting your parents as main and you being the main driver is illegal.

That's a ludicrous price anyway - unless you are quite literally a millionaire. And if you are then you wouldn't be insuring a 5 year old base spec Z4.

Considering this, in any way shape or form, makes absolutely zero sense.

If you really want a rear wheel drive convertible, think about an MX5, it will be a lot cheaper than a Zed, after all £9k is a stupid amount to pay EVERY YEAR just to be in a £12k car. Insurance companies take a dim view of people lying to them, it just isn't worth the risk.
