BMW Z3M Coupe - Wow

I had a rare S54 engined Z3M in black with imola red interior. It was the roadster rather than the bread van but as one of only 79 in the uk it would probably be worth 3 or 4 times now what the insurance paid out for it when I stuck it through a hedge into a farmers field!

That taught me not to delay getting the DSC fixed immediately (lateral acceleration sensor fault).

[ref]patriot66[/ref], that's a tidy, nice looking compact. I had an E46 325ti for a bit. Turned into a total money pit and I got rid. Shame, as I really liked how it drove when it was working.
Thanks, yes it's not too bad. It was a 2 or 3 year old trade-in back in 2003 when I worked at Halliwell Jones Warrington. Mum bought it 'love at first sight' and it's been well looked after ever since. There's a little bit of rust on the edge of the OSR wheelarch and a few little car park dings that need some attention but other than that it's really solid. Much better build quality then. Drives great. She had to stop driving last March and it's just gathering dust in her garage now. Not quite sure what to do with it yet

I would love one to be honest, I could put up with the interior, the colour was good enough for 007

I still miss my Z3 and a shame BMW couldn't produce something of similar size and less weight.

Nowt wrong with an S50, IMO. Traction control is for amateurs
I miss this old girl.

Traction control isn’t really necessary for a car with 300hp, but stability control would be a nice safety net for those rare moments when a slippery road catches you napping.

Agreed. It certainly wasn’t a car to be napping in and needed your complete attention. Always felt like it had the ability to kill you at a moments notice if you approached in a laissez faire fashion.

Had a brief chat with the owner of this modified Estoril Blue Z3MC up at the now sadly gone Hartside Pass Cafe one sunday back in May'16. Best colour for this car imho. Can't remember much about it unfortunately :(20210104_163403.jpg20210104_163422.jpg20210104_163229.jpg

I think John’s (Exdos) Z3MC also is steel grey. That would be my colour of choice too, but I’d prefer an S50 with a throttle cable and I don’t believe that combination exists (at least not OEM).
There were only 2 Steel Grey M Coupes in the UK. When you see the colour on the car it's too dark for my taste and Sterling Grey would suit the car far better. Mine is a S54 Titanium Silver with a Red/black interior:

Hi John, I wonder why I thought it was grey :scratchhead:
Yours looks great, especially with the functional aero parts. IIRC it has some choice suspension tweaks too.
I’m still kicking myself for not buying the S50 Z3MC that we discussed back in 2014...more so since the vendor would have accepted less than £8k :headbang:

Hi Richard, it's a real shame you didn't jump on that MC. The OEM MC is a lairy beast because the suspension has far too much travel, which causes rapid lateral and diagonal weight transfer, which can be a bit difficult to control, particularly on the road. I bought my MC OEM and progressively made changes which include KWV3, Caster/camber plates, uprated ARBs, strut-brace and butt-strut, and adjustable trailing arm brackets as well as the aero bits etc. It's handling is now fantastic and predictable. :D

Hope you're keeping well in Oz.

After owning an Imola MC, Steel Grey would be my colour of choice if I coudl pick anything (pref with impala interior). Think it shows the lines off perfectly.

I prefer the Estoril version with the Estoril interior. Just really love Estoril and it really suits the Z3M. Didn't think it looked so good on the E46 M3 shame they have made it a standard colour now every 1 series has it.

Also not sure if there was an AC version or just a kit but that was really rather cool too.

That looks just perfect with the Burgundy soft top. 8)

A shame indeed. I had a couple of other interesting cars instead as a consequence of not buying it, but I still feel like the Z3MC is a car I’d like to own one day (at least until I see the price they command now!).
All well in Oz thanks - baby No 1 is just over three months old and keeping us busy. Hope all is well with you?
