BMW welcome projector light

So I did a mod this weekend after viewing a few threads and figuring out how to do it. I installed BMW welcome projector lights on both doors.







The logo does look a little bit out of shape because each time I was parked half on the footpath.

My opinion is that they are somewhat tacky. But hey, different tastes and all.

TBH I quite like them.

How big a hole do you have to cut in the bottom of the door card ?

I nearly fitted some Audi ones to my TT... But then the consensus was that they are a bit tacky.... So got some cob led's which light up half the street as the door open instead :evil:

Personally i like them though... Maybe you can incorporate some lights into the wing mirrors too to compliment them?

Yeah. I saw this on a friend of mines bmw m3 frozen edition and that came standard. I think that pushed me to doing it. Quite like the look of it.

How big a hole do you have to cut in the bottom of the door card ?

Thanks bud. The face of the led is 1.8cm so about that size hole. You get a hole cutter with the LEDs.

Glad you like them. Wing mirror sounds quite a bit of a job lol. Might do the external door handle light though. You got any pics of the cob leds, not sure I know what you mean?

Fitted puddle lights but never felt the need to tell everyone it's a BMW

Rajen, I have a set of puddle lights with projectors that I plan on installing but there was no OEM wiring in the doors for them. I have looked over another DIY on installing these where they tapped into the footwell lights, did you do the same? If so, did you connect through the connector in the door? If not, how? Some pics of your wiring would be greatly appreciated.

There's no existing wiring in the door for any form of auto dimming, just speakers and switched power to windows, locks, etc., so you have to put at least a single power feed into the door. I used the footwell light as it's close to the door as it's a fully controlled source to operate in conjunction with keys and ignition, plus engine starting.

Opening the door hinge and adding a new pin to each side is the neatest, but you could attach a lead underneath it

That's what I suspected and IIRC, you did the DIY write-up? My concern is the male/female pin that goes into the connector (used hole #8). I have ordered some connectors, but not certain if they are the correct size. Also, did you need to disconnect the battery to prevent the airbag light from being triggered? I believe the airbag wiring also runs through that door connection and might cause a fault when disconnected.

I have not yet dug around for the wiring of the footwell lights but presume that to be simple and recongnizable?

Hey rj. I tapped into the live wire of the footwell light. The negative can be anywhere on the door. You gotta remove some panels and speaker in the footwell. Hope this helps.

Also, did you just run that wire straight through the door connection cover (rubber boot) or did you use connection pins?

No problem. Tbh I ran it through. I did buy some connectors but I was struggling to separate the connectors and pull them out more. For some reason the wires felt tight, no room for play. Might do the external handle this weekend or sort my foglights out. Bloody got condensation in them
