BMW Warranty Cover

Some BMW Warranty advice please....

I have been looking to sell my Z4 35is for a while but in truth love the thing and with a couple of months until the winter passes I am torn between continuing the effort to sell or to keep longer term!

The car has covered 70,000 miles, is very well maintained with FBWMSH and no current issues. My concern is that I guess I am heading into the territory of potentially pricey issues such as adaptive suspension and turbos.

I have a fully comp BMW warranty and am happy to renew for the peace of mind, but my question is which of the potential pricey issues is, or is not, covered under a BMW extended warranty?

For example if the turbo or shocks go are these covered? Any other biggies that may not be?

Many thanks in advance!

Turbo should come under warranty.

Not sure about shocks on a 70,000 mile motor, I would’ve thought that came under general wear and tear.

Isn't it all listed in the booklet they send you when you renew? I think with the comprehensive option you're pretty much covered for most things from what I can remember. I've just renewed mine at the end of December on the Comprehensive again

Just haven't had the need to use it but I guess that's not a bad thing. :driving:

Ah! Just found and checked the booklet (probably where I should have started) and if I am reading it right everything is covered except obvious consumables like brakes etc.... there is a wear and tear policy but under fully comp even those items are covered up to 100,000 miles! Sounds good!

Out of interest what is the cost of leaking/broken adaptive suspension?

That's the way I read it too, was just about to get a photo of the page and post it for you but you've found it now

Approx £1600 for a pair of fronts https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=89741&p=1324675&hilit=leaking+adaptive+shocks#p1324675

Good good! Appreciate the second opinion!

That helps the decision!

Keep the warranty

The only things that aren't covered are service items (oil, plugs, filters, brake pads and discs) and rubber seals. There is something in the booklet about exhaust components not being covered, but I've personally had cats replaced under warranty and others have had the cat-back portion replaced due to exhaust flap rattle so not sure about that part.

Engine will most definitely be covered. At a certain mileage (100K I think) BMW drop the level of cover available so maybe beyond that the engine block isn't covered.

I wonder if rubber seals exclusion would include rubber gaskets which are usually O rings. That would not be good because they seem to be a known issue, and some are somewhat costly. e.g. DCT, fuel pump, Valve cover

I think it may specify weather seals. Like the rubber strips around the doors and windows. Which is why water ingress is not going to be covered.

How much is the extended warranty and how long?

It’s car dependent, based on model/age/ etc and renews annually.

And also depends on which level of cover you want (comprehensive, named component & driveline component) as well as the excess level you are prepared to pay (£0, £100 & £250) on any warranty repairs. So, it's fairly flexible budget wise as well as having the option to pay outright annually or in monthly instalments.
