Ok guys what's your view on this...... Sorry it's a long one

Went along to my BMW dealer a couple of weeks ago (who have been very good with me may I add) and ordered a Z4 35iS.

I sat with the sales guy and we specced the car up on his computer and took advantage of the "connectivity package" offer which along with bluetooth chucks in USB and a couple of other connections for the phone and ipod.

Ok great. So as you do I hit another dealer and spec the same car and between the two I haggle for a deal.

So I order the car and pay a deposite with the same dealer who supplied my Z4 23i.

However a couple of days later he phones me in a bit of a panic to say that the ordering system won't let them put the connectivity package on and is chasing it up with BMW. Few days later he says apparently you now need to order navigation (£2100) to get the money saving package and he is at a loss as to why this is currently.

I go straight to BMW car configurator online and spec the car up no problem???? Now i've been informed you can't get bluetooth without navigation AT ALL!. (my current 2009 Z has bluetooth and no nav).

So I call BMW. Unhelpful, blamed the dealer for everthing and that the terms and conditions of the web site is that they can change spec whenever. Basically tough.

Now I specced the car in two different dealers on a BMW system, made an order and paid a desposite and now i'm told to get bluetooth on my car I now have to order Nav at £2100 because BMW have changed the production and this is a couple of weeks after I placed my order.

BMW says it's the dealers fault and to take it up with them. To be fair the dealer has told me the system has now only just changed today not when I ordered the car.

I know my contract is with the dealer but I seriously think BMW have been unfair with their response here.

Not like it's a set of mudflaps but an integral part of the car that can't be retrofitted or make use of the steering wheels controls.

Suggestions welcome.

Who pays for the Nav is really down to you and the dealer... can you do a bit of arm twisting to get them to pay partially, or all of the cost? I have seen this before - the public website being slightly out of sync with the factory ordering system.

Personally, I would keep the 23i :P

I ordered my 23i M Sport at the end of April, with complimentary specifications upgrade, i.e. connectivity package and loudspeaker system. Two options were absolutely free, and got good discounts from the car and other options. Car was delivered in 4 weeks.

Of course you can have just bluetooth without sat nav. I also believe it was dealer's problem.

Thing that winds me up is that the dealers (both of them) computers specced up the car no problem in the showrooms.I even have a print out. This isn't my fault but i'm the one taking the hit.

No doubt the dealer has a get out clause with BMWs system just like BMW have with the online system and joe public. Feel s**t about this now

PS

If I have to keep the 23i I won't be too annoyed. It's a cracker

From BMW customer services themselves "35iS bluetooth only available with Nav you should have checked with your dealer about this option as they are subject to change". I did check :x

Dealer says the internal dealer system has only changed today. Bluetooth is apparently no longer available without nav (35iS).

Then it's the dealers problem, if they won't sort it ask for your deposit back and walk away. I am sure they won't want you to do that

But BMW told the dealers (both of them) it was available that way via their internal system.

Think i'll just say to the dealer "you sort it and take it up with BMW". But just to make this clear BMW customer services were not exactly pleasant to deal with today.

I'm getting a feeling from what you are saying, that the dealer is just trying to get more money out of you, (£2100 for Sat Nav Pro), or actually go back on the deal. Also, somebody will correct me if wrong, but there's the configurator on bmw.co.uk (for the public) as well as the configurator the sales people use (graphical system) where they can apply discounts, but there is also the text based factory ordering system. I guess at the end of the day the factory based system is the most important one as that says how you want the car to be!

Good luck, keep us updated.

Even more surprised in a way that you would want a top model (currently :P ) car but spec it without satnav. It will be a pig to sell later on ...

Z4Andy - I think this is a case of going to the dealer, taking a deep breath and asking in a rational and quiet manner, 'We seem to have a bit of a problem with my order, now how can we resolve this?'

Sound advice.

Good news. It has all been sorted (I hope). BMW's ordering system has been screwed up and the dealer has managed to get the spec sorted.

Somebody somewhere hasn't been reading the bulletins and BMW customer care have an attitude problem. Also they need to know the difference between phone connection bluetooth and streaming audio bluetooth.

Customer services have been intouch with the dealer and sorted the problem.

Dealer has been actually been a star as I gave them a fair bit of grief .

Now back to the real problem ... why oh why are you ordering without satnav. Just look at the M's for sale here that just won't shift without it in it.

Are you sure the bluetooth was available without the satnav when you ordered the car? I wanted to have connection when I ordered my 30iS back in November of last year and was told that I needed to have satnav installed for everything to work! I ended up getting a Parrot mki9100 with a Parrot unika so as to have the steering wheel controls from John Kleis in Reading (about £320.00). It is impotant to know if it was possible, as if not your dealer is at fault he should do something about it! Dealers do make mistakes and mine was no exception as he forgot to order the pdc when I revised my order the day after signing - he had the pdc retro fitted in the dealership (excellent job) and did not charge a bean.

Z4Andy - happy to be critical of any organisation that fails to deliver to its customers but you state, 'BMW Customer Care have an attitude problem', is that the whole of BMW Customer Care or just the individual at the end of the phone you dealt with? I take it you asked for the name of the person in BMW CC you were dealing with so that you letter of complaint can I dentify the individual so that appropriate action can be taken. Glad the issue has been sorted - but keep a record of all the conversations and agreed remedies so that if the car arrives and its not OK/to spec you have all the information to take appropriate action.
