BMW to charge a subscription for heated seat use.

Your thoughts about BMW charging for using heated seats… £15 per month!!! How about a subscription charge to use the key? Windscreen wipers? (Does having them on slow reduce the charge?) Air-con? On a Z4 a hefty subscription to put the roof down…..
Madness or a clever revenue stream which others will follow?

Is there not an option that's lifetime and it's a few hundred quid? Which is nothing for a brand new car.

Tesla charge several thousand for software unlocks for more power, etc.

Expect all cars to be built the exact same in future by machines and depending on what you pay that's what you unlock ok on the car. The subscription makes zero sense given its only £300-£400 to unlock for life.
 
You can still specify those options when order the car, in which case you don't need to pay for the subscription. It's just when you haven't tick the option when order the new car, then you want to have such feature, you can then either subscribe monthly or lifetime as the hardware is already there.

My car does not have the high beam assistant option ticked when ordered but the car came with such option prepared (basically, hardware installed). So I just pay £125 during black friday sale (full price £160) to buy the lifetime subscription to enable this. After the discount, it's actually chaper than ordering such option when new.
 
If buying a used g29 you would need to make sure these things are paid for by the first owner I suppose. What a strange new world we live in. :thumbsdown:
