BMW switching to Michelin?

I was down at BMW today with my brother who was picking up his new 3 series coupe. 18 inch wheels, same size as ours, same size tyres - had Michelin PS2s as standard - the dealer said that the 3 series and M3 have switched over... seems like BMW agree with what people here have said!

The 523i Sport I had used Goodyear NCT5 as standard, and Z4 uses Bridgestone Potenza RE050A. Do BMW use different makes of tyre for different models?

Well, I'm not sure - they probably do to some extent. But the 3 series defintiely used to come with Bridgestone Potenza's RE050A as my wife's has them! The dealer definitely was aware of the switch but didn't know why the change had been made.

Salesmen talk garbage much of the time, you should know that. BMW use many different tyre suppliers from Michelin through to Bridgestone, Continental etc. The exact same models can come as standard with different makes of tyres, it changes constantly.

What dgm said. Even here in SC with the US Michelin headquarters here, depends on the wheel options and the exact model as to which tire you get. Just spent the day on the performance track and I can tell you they all smell alike when you finish a hot lap! I'm still grinning from ear to ear. :driving:
