BMW Stolen

Woke up at 6 a.m Monday morning, bird said - "sweety, where did you park your car" to which I replied, in front of the door and if it ain't there any more its been nicked!"

And f##k me it was. Luckily it was the 100k 330XD I just bought 2 weeks ago to do some mileage and not ///M that sleeps in a garage. Gutted though, had just got the front bumper and bonnet painted and new steering column; had polished it and even hoovered my dog's hair.

How the hell did they do it? I vaguely heard some thumping noise around 4.30 a.m thinking it was the dustbin men (full dustbins later confirmed it wasn't).

I immadiately thought they must have electronically hacked it or something...Friend of mine who's a Gold Star Porsche Mech (and who does quite a few jobs on ///M) told me that its not that easy to OBD hack etc and that it was most likely jacked lifted and put on a truck.

The interesting thing is large (ie: more than 2L) here in France is rare and these cars are used for robberies or "go fast" as they call it carrying drugs.

Wondering how I'm going to get my next car safer and more rob-proof? Thinking of fitting a tracker to ///M meanwhile.

Gutted it was a sweet ride, went like stink, good to ngo skying and got such a bargain...

Any ideas re the safety rob proof thing?

Cheers.

If you only bought it 2 weeks ago, i would consider looking to the person you got it from. Did they give you a second key, or had that mysteriously been lost at some point. May have even sold the key on and your details.

Has the log book come through yet by any chance?

Sorry about the theft - I'd consider getting an automatic light thingy where you park the car(s) or a dog (they're usually pretty good alarms).

Nothing like a bit of light to put thieves off !

or one of these;

It's a possibility the previous owner still has the logbook etc and has had another key cut at BMW.

I recently did this as I got only 1 key with my Z4. Ordered a new key from BMW and was told that FIVE keys have been ordered previously in the car's life time. It is possible for the dealer to block all previous keys so only the ones you have work. Costs about £100 here in the UK.

Good luck with recovering it anyway :)

As stated ,this is no coincidence ,after only 2 weeks of ownership.
We have only had one car stolen from outside where i work in 7 years ,this was a car the guy had only bought a week earlier!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear of your loss, as to protecting your car saw a program of TV a few years ago, guy bought an expensive car and it was stolen from his drive, bought another with the insurance and it was also stolen from his drive, the third one he got a chain and fixed it to a large concrete block in his drive, they came with a flat bed truck with a hydraulic crane and lifted it on complete with the concrete block.
A hidden tracker inside may let you get it back but if they want to steal it they will !

Large movement activated floodlights and a speaker that plays the first part of '20 Seconds To Comply' when triggered.
Sorry to hear about the loss. Sounds like it was a good purchase and real shame you didn't get to enjoy it for very long.

For a second I thought this thread might have been about cake... but more seriously, sorry you've had to endure this, being stolen from, no matter what, is a crappy experience.

Why does it wait 5 mins?

Because it warns you first, in case you forgot. Also makes sense that it is better for carjackers to get away first, so you can get yourself to safety before the car stops.
