bmw spring break

hello.

so i did my brakes and found both rear springs broken. ive read about the issue so i wasnt surprised. my questions though are has bmw ever addressed this issue with their stock springs? also ive been searching for springs and cant seem to find ones that will give stock ride height?? is there any out there? im finding it hard to believe that dirt getting into the spring base is causing all this. im thinking more of design flaw. in anycase can anyone shed some light. thank you.

What mileage is your car on?
 
You don't say what suspension you have to know what springs you have. Mine wasn't broken due to rust, more just broken from age and cycles of the spring. Lots of makes of cars break springs , although BMW rears seem to be quite regular. At a certain age / mileage , springs and shocks do wear anyway.

Usually they crack around 40,000 miles, so to get 60,000 miles out of them isn’t bad.

Seeing as your car is 12 years old and with that mileage I would look into replacing both your dampers and springs with OE parts. (Usually a cracked spring is a sign that the dampers are no longer working at their best).

If you do decide to do the above I would also look into replacing your bushes, main ones being the RTABs, differential bushes, front wishbone bushes and lollipop bushes. Followed up by a Hunters wheel alignment.

It’s not going to be cheap but if the car is a keeper you should get another 10 years or so without having to touch your suspension again.

Obviously if the car is not a keeper I would do the bare minimum (replace both rear springs with OE).
