Bmw Show 35is (Stock) vs 28i (Modified) QTR mile

Hi,

Went to the BMW show, and there has been a lot of debate on a modified 28i been as quick as an 35i.

Well today at SentaPod I was joined by an 35is a new member, and I believe he won first prise and winning the group. And achieved an winning time of 13.7 secs whist my 4 pot achieved an respectable 13.8 secs.

So against everyone's thoughts 1/10 of a second is not a great margin

That's a pretty horrible time for the 35iS. Seen times more like 13.0-13.1 quoted.

Not sure how you can screw up the launch that bad when you have launch control!

If it's your first time with a car on a new drag strip I can imagine you wouldn't want to floor it instantly.

Unfortunately driving ability comes into it and to get a real indication you'd need an experienced driver to drive both cars one after the other to get a good idea of performance. If it was a experiment you need a constant and the driver should be it.

Z4 35iS 0-100km/h using launch control in sub-2C temps:
Code:
Tyre Run 1 Run 2
Rainsport 3 265/35R18 5.22s 5.19s
MPSS 245/35R18 5.36s 5.33s
RE050A 255/35R18 5.69s 5.60s
Slow reaction & tyres?

Reaction time does not have an impact on your 1/4 mile time -

I think tyres would be an issue - as most E92 M3 were doing mid 13's - 14's.

As they were struggling to get the power down - a few peeps have reported that they thought Santa Pod was quite slippery compared to Shakespeare

Also my trap speed was 102.57 Mph - even though at shakespare my trap speed was 103 with slower times of 14.09 Secs. But at Shakespeare i was using runflats.

However the 35is did it in 13.7424 and trap speed of 103.11

That 35i S owner is me

Great day again this year at the BMW Show, although would have liked to see more stands there, stalls and a BMW dealer?

Only picked the 35i S up on Friday so haven't had much time with it.

The only explanation I can give for the times are tyres and perhaps fuel? Car came with a full tank of 95 and iv'e always used 99? Tyres are not great either, with the Bridgestone RE05A's on back and front.

Either way I was pleasantly surprised to find I had won the class, I didn't go there to win and never even thought it would have been possible. It was a close win mind and the 28i deserves a big  really nice chap to!

Re-match next year I hope?

Raesy!

Those tyres didn't do you any favours.

Twin Turbo, I wasn't thinking driver but rather drive train. Too hot or cold and the DCT 'box can be a little lethargic. You're right I wasn't clear at all.

Maybe so, but as already mentioned E92 M3's were struggling. To compare the 1M Coupe (Same engine as I am sure you are already aware) only got a 13.4 I believe and the M2 just marginally quicker.

Nothing wrong with this driver thanks, or the launch :D
