BMW service seem to have dented my door...

Took my car into BMW service and realised after getting back that the drivers side door is dented and must have happened there as it was pristine beforehand and hadn't been parked elsewhere inbetween collecting and taking home. Taking it back Friday and they say they'll have a look but dreading I'll get a massive complete door respray bill :(

It is very minor but its in the middle of the door and obvious when you look carefull - about an inch tall vertically - worried they will claim it didn't happen there etc as I didn't spot it until I got home, but will have to see.

If you do get stuck with fixing it yourself I have a suggestion for a backup plan. Paintless dent repair. We have some places here that can massage out small dents from the inside without any paint or bodywork being done. As long as the paint surface hasn't been cracked or seriously damaged it works great. I got an M3 a couple of years ago with a nasty door ding on the passenger side, dead center of the door. It looked like hell but for $100 and a couple of hours of my time (having a coffee across the road in Starbucks) it was gone and you could never tell it was ever there.

coincidence, same happened to me recently only was the passenger door. i noticed it 2 days after, i told the dealer and he said ar yes we know about that we will fix it! not something you always think about when the car goes in but best to show them round the car to prove there is no damage and then check it when you collect it. another thing never let them clean the car, when i got mine back it looked like they had chamoied it with a brillo pad, took me all day to buff it out and rewax it.

Currently working in the UAE and when I take my car for service the first thing they do is a full check of the car with me present, they mark up a sheet (a bit like a hire car contract) detailing and dings, nicks or scratches. This way there's no denying any damage whilst in their care (and to date I've had no complaint). I have started doing this in the UK at my local dealers; they thought it odd at first and now just accept that I do it - perhaps it also keeps them on their toes as I also make sure we do a full check when I get the vehicle back. Takes 5 mins on deposit and collection.

Also agree with Mcbee if all other options fail with the dealer- paintless dent repair - had a significant trolley ding in my 325i. Two hours with the stealers using their guy (no doubt a franchise they use) and now door is perfect.
