BMW Ruby Black ( black or red ? )

Hi
I am looking to purchase a "Ruby Black" Z4M roadster and having done the usual checks ie vin pates chassis number log book and HPI an interesting point has come to light the car. On log book and V5 lists the car as "Red" and not "Black " I have even been to the original supplying BMW garage and they have confirmed that sometimes they were listed as "Red " based on the ruby element in the product paint code reference.
It sounds a bit odd as the car is basically a black car with a red tint.

Have any other members come across this before you assistance would be much appreciated.

Regards

I came across this situation also when I was looking at Ruby Black cars and checking MOT history online. Some were listed as "Black" and some were listed as "Red".

I guess it all depends on what the person at the DVLA had for breakfast that day.

Hi
Thank you for your reply's and am glad to see what you say .
I am a bit nervous as I recently sold a Brooklands Capri and it was recorded as blue not green as should be.This caused issues leading people to question whether the car was genuine or a repaint .
As you can see I am very new to this site one other point was seller was saying the car with Ruby Black ,champagne - cream leather and black piano dash was one of only two such cars to this spec.
Not that this is an issue either way but would be a nice to know.

Thank you for your assistance.

Regards

Mine is also RED on the log book - and have had a couple of police stops to verify that what they're seeing on their ANPR system is correct :P

This link should do the trick. Pick your options and it will show you how many cars with specific options were manufactured. Also gives the VIN number so you can confirm. Mine (non M) is 1 of only 3 in the UK with the same paint/interior options :-)

If that’s true, then I own the other one

...and I own a coupe version of the same spec :D

Is it 'extended' champagne, or just normal?

Yes, it's quite a common issue I believe.

My 1st E86 was Ruby Black, but the V5 said it was Red. Previous owner said his OH got stopped a couple of times over that, but in 2 years I never had a problem with it.

Whoops, just realised that you guys were talking about Z4M’s. :?

In which case I don’t own the other one

Mine was also originally registered as red, but changed later. Seems a common issue with Ruby black as you're finding out!
