Going to try the OEM kit tommorrow weather permiting any tips

Have the cleaner liquid form and protector Aerosol.

Going to clean early morning and see if it sorts the mildew and if so thought about leaving for a few hours in the sun to get the top nice and dry then apply the protection although they say not in direct sunlight.

They say on the instructions you can apply to a damp hood as they do on the AG and Renovo kits will this not seal in the moisture and cause more mildew  or do these protectors allow the cloth to breath ?

Thought about cleaning the hood and leaving for a few days to really dry out but the car lives outside so not much chance of that

I did exactly the same this afternoon. Both original BMW products like yours. Did the shampoo in the afternoon but waited until early evevning before applying the protector as per the instructions. I also used a 3M Scotch-Brite Lint Roller inbetween which worked a treat.

How did you get on? For me, the most time consuming part was masking off all of the paintwork and glass before I started! :!:

Still having probs with the mildew it seems to have got rid of some gonna be a long job doing a small area at a time letting it dry and cleaning again so no chance getting the protection on today just hope the weather holds for a few more days then i may have a chance og getting protection on.

How was using the aerosol did you just spray and leave to dry or work it in at all ?

Going to mask off the whole car as i cleaned her yesterday thats gonna be a long job will use some very light plastic sheeting i bought.

The aerosol was fine but I can't imagine much is left for another go and I'm pretty sure I didn't overuse it.

Despite what some people say on here, the BMW protector does bead slightly. Not as much as I've seen as I've seen in the photos of other products but it does bead.

I think you must have way overused it. My ragtopp is a 14oz aerosol I've applied it 2 times (each with 3 light passes) and barely used a third of it.

Pure guess, but I'd expect the aerosol to last 4 to 5 full applications and both to be similar in application and use.

The overuse would increase beading for sure by clogging and blocking the weave of the fabric. Not that I'm against it beading, which is natural with anything silicone based in use, but against the sealing of roofs with wrong chemicals like tent sealer then demonstrating wonderful beading :headbang:

Oops, I will try and estimate how much is left next time I use it. I just couldn't imagine there being much left after doing a couple or so light passes of the roof given the large size of it.

how often do you apply the impregnating spray?
I use the soft top cleaner every 2nd or 3rd week and a lint roller in between (since reading posts on here)
but the dealer wants $100 for the small spray so i haven't bought it yet. is it necessary? is there a cheapo alternative?

Sounds way too excessive to me.

I rarely wash the roof - maybe every 2 to 3 months, lint roller it whenever I see bits on it. Apply the cleaner once a year and spray at that time.

My preference is to not mess with the roof and do the minimum amount of rubbing, cleaning and treating. (previous owner did the same regime) and I reckon my 7 year old roof looks as new. apart from a few of the minor crease/pressure lines.

To be honest it's the Resin Remover that interests me as there are alturnitives available for the soft top. I visit my brother in Southend on Sea quite often and the amount of bird cr.p that hits the cars down there is unbelievable and then there's the Seagul's OMG. Just last month I had a seagul make a deposit on the bonnet of my 2000 5er which lifted the lacquar right of the panel in 3 three places, it upset me but not as much as it would if it were to happen to the Zed. I've been looking for something specific just for this reason and I've read another post saying this was the stuff recommended by a BMW dealer to be used on the paint work.

Slightly of topic apologies
