BMW Roadster Homecoming 2008 info

Of course I will be at ES again this year,,,,had a reservation within a week of the last one :D

Edit: Adding Homecoming info onto page 1 of this thread

Since we have several threads running on the same topic, I am merging them into this one to provide info for all, in one easy(?) spot.

What is Homecoming? An Annual gathering of BMW Z cars at the manufacturing plant in South Carolina, on Labor Day weekend (end of August), and runs from Thursday to Saturday evening.

How do I register to participate? Registration normally opens up on the official Homecoming website the second weekend in June. We should get more info on the exact day as we approach registration time. Be quick in registering and have all pertinent info available (VIN number, events you wish to participate in, etc.). The available slots filled up really quick last year, depending on which source you refer to, registration filled up within 1-4 hours of opening
Last year was a $40 US fee per person, and driving events were extra.

What is the webite for HC'08? http://www.bmwroadsterhomecoming.com/
Bookmark it for later use and to keep up on the latest info

Where can I stay? The Embassy Suites are the focal point for all evening activities except for Saturday nights dinner. Embassy Suites has been booked solid for several months and people are on a waiting list for cancellations. If any of our members have to cancel for any reason, please pass on your reservation to another forum member. There are a lot of other hotels in the area, and the HC website does have links to them.

I think that I have covered most of the important items, but feel free to ask anything that comes to mind. There are a few of us that have been and can provide answers

Cheers!

I was 52nd to get a reservation at ES! (if I remember correctly) Got to see the hotel there recently while on a golf outing with my old man.

I have a feeling this years event might be the last Homecoming for old friends and new friends to meet at the birthplace of the Z. :driving:

Agreed  From what I understood, it may be left to ZSCCA to organize any future events after this year, and I do not see that happening without a massive influx of dollars from outside sources. A car club cannot provide the amenities that BMW provided for only a $40 registration fee.

BMW CCA inserted a tiny copy of the HC 07 pano shot in one of the Roundel mag editions. It was pitiful and an embarrassment. It appears to me that the dominance of the 2002/E36/E46's within the national club puts us lowly Z3/Z4 drivers in the pissant catagory. Even when I was president of the KC Chapter last year, roadsters were looked down upon by some of the Club elite. I see regional events (quasi-Homecoming) only for several reasons:
1) BMW Manufacturing(US) will no longer make any roadsters, plus they will shed the expense of Homecoming.

2) BMW CCA has Bimmerfest.

3). ZSCCA has some outstanding chapters but nationally it is considered to be too fractured to be a driving (pun intended) force to hold a Homecoming on its own, plus it ain't cheap.

I agree about this being the HC swan song. I'll be there (with my own Z4) even if I have to pitch a pup tent for a room.

I have some tents....

I will be there with hats on!!

Does anybody else find it strange that the website hasn't been upgraded yet??

In years past by this late it was online, especially if sign in is in June as before

ES Parking Lot was the best part of HC imo - I say we put it on with or without BMW! The beer tent sounds like a wonderful idea!

If this is the last, we need to come up with some sort of organized (Z4-forum) lot festivities Friday night! The only way to drink and drive. :driving:
