BMW Recall

Apologies if this has already been raised but thought I would share this article, I know the Daily Mail are at the cutting edge

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6761995/BMW-death-traps-250-000-cars-Britain-risk-bursting-flames.html

I'm sure this has been an ongoing issue as I remember watching a Watchdog episode maybe last year or year before about an owner whose new 3/5 series went up in flames on the house drive and nearly took the house with it.

I'm unsure if this just affects all 4 cyl petrol and 6 cyl diesel cars it doesn't seem clear accept it affects most models.

I've checked my 140i on DVSA and is giving the all clear but then does that mean anything although it falls outside the indicated manufacturing years.

Tim.

Marking myself safe, I don’t like any other BMW other than those of the Z marque, & they’re not on the list

Our 5 series has had a recall letter from BMW and a reminder! - went into the local stealers but they didn't have the parts that was before Christmas. Due in again on Monday for test and for the "we'll do the recall work next time you're in" but I bet they still don't have the parts judging by this article about them in our local paper

I took the 335 in for a check last week - after they had the car in for a day I got the "No further action req'd" notice !

So your car isn’t in the affected manufactured years, you’ve not had a letter and it’s not on the DVLA recall list.

Think that tells you all you need to know.

Talking of recalls I thought I'd go online and and take a look on the Gov mot site which has the section on it to check for recalls. Well it turns out I have an outstanding recall for my 2009 35i, it's the B+ positive connector that needs changing so went and got her Booked in for the 20th March.

I got the recall letter from BMW in January. For my X3 3.0D. They couldn't book me in till now. Took it in today and... SHOCK! They say mine is affected. Apparently, the EGR valve can cause fires and say my car is unsafe to drive till they get replacement parts. Unfortunately, they've had a run on replacement valves and have no stock left. :o They say it might be weeks. They are arranging a courtesy car for me - provisionally for 21 days!
I'm writing this as I'm sat in Cooper BMWs dealership waiting to see what this courtesy car will be. Theres a nice new Z4 M40i parked outside. I wonder... :D

No -its Chelmsford.

Hers's my loan car. A Toyota CH-R  . BMW are using Enterprise for their long-term loan cars. The guy at Enterprise says BMW have put about 2000 people in to their cars already. It must be costing them a fortune.

What's the Toyota like? I'm guessing not great to drive. I quite like the look of them as was thinking of trying one out when I change the runabout at the end of the year.

At least it doesn't catch fire

I got the EGR cooling recall a while ago and it’s been in - they said it was ok- today I got another recall note for the same EGR cooling fault .

No wonder they are snowed under if they send duplicate letters !

Ours has been in twice now; apparently its a different recall for the same part with a different check - at least ours was OK both times but it will need to be changed when they start making the sensors available in large numbers. Given that ours wasn't bad enough to have the car laid up I bet its going to be the end of the year before ours is changed. We were told that every car (in the affected model ranges) coming through the workshops have to be checked every time - so every visit becomes an opportunity to have your car 'off roaded'

Thanks for the heads up on that!
I wrongly assumed it was an admin mistake - hey hum another day without a car!

I have noticed a very shrill albeit low volume whistle at times so maybe there is something in need of a fix - If it does need a fix they’ll need to do it before my Germany / Netherlands trip in mid April - or loan me something appropriate for a longish Euro trip.

Had the .letter today my 5 Series is booked in for Wednesday for a check to see if it’s affected. Had to battle to get a courtesy car but got one through booking it in with BMW Emergency Assist so a Car will be there with Enterprise suppling and BMW paying

I don't know what it is with BMW these days, trying to get a loan car or suggesting if one could be supplied when the car is in for a service the nice lady behind the desk either falls to the floor in hysterical laughter or looks at me as if they have a turd attached to their shoe. When I call Hyundai to book the i10 in for a service they either offer a loan car or offer to collect the car from home and drop it back, I opt for the car to be collected from home. When I had the i10 serviced last year I was sent a video of the service whilst I sat at home. My BMW dealer have never done any of that. Just shows you can buy a car a third of the price and get a much better dealer service
