BMW Outdoor Cover Instructions

This may seem a bit of a stupid question, but stay with me...

My ebay-purchased OEM outdoor cover was delivered yesterday and is very good and nice and lovely. But I was just wondering if there's a proper way to fit it?
The bag is integral, so when the cover is fitted, it's on the inside. When I fitted it yesterday, it was bunched up on the windscreen but when I removed it, I noticed it had a kind of sucker on it, presumably to fix it in a certain place on the windscreen.

It also has a pink bit of plastic on a cord inside that I couldn't really work out a purpose for, so I put it over the stubby to avoid contact with paintwork.

So, anyway... while I got the cover on quite happily, it didn't look as snug as in BMW's picture of it and the number plate window didn't quite line up with the number plate. Anyone got the technique down pat and want to share?
 
No instructions required... funny enough I put my newly purchased cover (from ebay) on the other day...

The zipper bit of the bag should be on the rear passenger side.

The cord is to reduce the chance of someone nicking it... you need to put in the trunk

i would advise you to remove your antenna.
 
Ah, that makes sense (the cord in the boot)... was worried about people nicking it too :thumbsup:

Yeah, I got the zip on the near-side rear, with the bungies to tighten the bottom and the clasp to keep it done up... but the bag itself is bunched up on the windscreen, must be a proper way to position it.
 
I found this method works for me and ensures cover does not get blown about to much when puting on and taking off.

COVER PLACEMENT
1. Attach bag containing cover to top cente of windscreen via round suction pad.
2. unzip one end and place cover over each wing mirror
3. Pull cover over bonnet and underneath front spolier
4. pull cover over the back of Zed, open boot and place inch wide strap inside and close. Pull cover so plastic window covers number plate and attach plastic clasp together.
5. Zip up and tighten cord by adjusting plastic cord gripper.
6. I normally place the loose bits of cord in the little envelope located to the right of the Zip

COVER REMOVAL
1. undo plastic clasp, unzip and loosen cord
2. Open boot , remove strap and fold back towards front of vehicle
3. Remove cover from under front spolier and fold back onto bonnet
4. Remove cover from both wing mirrors and fold into opening of storage bag.
5. Zip up bag and remove sucker

Peddy, I thought "pffft, it's a stubby, no need to remove"... But just put the cover on good and tight and it does strain over it... Off next time! :)
 
when i got mine i was expecting a neatly fitted hole where the aerial would fit through, seems strange having to remove the aerial

Most forum members have a stubby. Even if i had the oem one i would still remove it... it takes 2 secs.

They're supposed to be made of a scratch-proof (for want of a better phrase) material so that they won't. That said, I'm still very careful when putting mine on!

Hendy's method sounds like it's a good way to minimise the risk too!
 
I'm sure I read somewhere that the outdoor BMW cover is machine washable, has anybody tried? Mine is pretty dirty now!
 
I would imagine that would affect the water-proofednessism of the cover. I guess you could then treat it with a tent water-prooferiser or something...
