Hello people!

At the grand old age of 22 I've decided to take the plunge and have bought the z4mc Rf56 OZH after 5 years of French car ownership!

First things first, after browsing the forum for the past few weeks I'd like to say how useful it is, lots of informative posts that have helped me greatly.

I'm throughly enjoying the car so far, although the cornish roads and a somewhat stiff chassis leave a little to be desired...

Couple of questions if thays OK?

1st one being I've bought the obligatory stubby aerial, however the original seems to be stuck fast to the aerial Base, any tips on how to release it?

The second being today I was delving underneath and have spotted what looks to be a small amount if oil around the rear subframe/diff area, is this a problem to be allarmed about, I've read the few threads and people say the ///m's do leak diff oil, but how much?

Thanks Guys
Alex

Welcome! What a car for 22! I'm very jealous as I'm 32 and I've never owned an m car (yet).
This is a great forum, I've learnt so much about these cars since I've been here.
Looks a lovely motor, the aerial just unscrews from the base at the gap, may be a bit stiff at first.

Welcome to the forum OP.

Sorry I cannot help with your questions, but I was over 40 before I bought any BMW, and over 50 before I got a Z4 - still haven't made it to an M, but to be fair I am more than happy with my Z4C.

I'm sure someone will be along to give some insight though - this is a really helpful forum!

Anyway, in the meantime enjoy it - lovely looking car!

So young and such a great ride to own.

My Ariel was pretty sized when I went stubby...i used a washcloth and a pair of vise grips so as not to damage it. Figured if I saw the base move it would be a little more work, but with a couple taps she let go and screwed right off.

:P

Hi and welcome.

I know that some people lower their cars - but not all over!

The Whippy Ariel Protection League have special powers that seize whippys to stem the rising tide of their shorter and uglier counterparts!

Sorry that I cannot help with the second question (and wouldn't help with the first even if I could!).

Enjoy :driving:

Welcome aboard. Us oldies would probably have a heart attack looking at your insurance premium! :poke:

Thanks for the welcome guys, i did decide to take the plunge into the deep end... Always wanted one buying one on the video game Need for speed shift when i was younger!

The whippy aerial is a pain, the base does move when i tried to remove it with mole grips so it may reuqire more effort than i originally thought...
Living in deepest darkest cornwall means that the insurance premium for a 22 year old is far less of a burden than the Annual road tax bill! :?

Welcome, glad to see another Cornish z car, I'm another newbie and had problems with stubby aerials, not fitting them just getting them to have a decent radio signal. I have bought two and neither are working properly so I have the whippy back on. I'm jealous of your m version although I don't think I'd like to zoom around our Cornish minor roads trying to avoid the sheep and tractors. :driving:

I'll keep an eye out for you on the road and give you a wave.

Ant believe your insurance is less than the road tax though :o

Anyway, a bit of diff oil leakage is normal. It looks like a slightly damp stain on the cars I have seen, on the braces mainly (including my own) rather than an actual wet leak, if that makes sense and gives an idea of the amount ? Apparently it can be solved by replacing the diff seals, but from what I have heard that's quite a significant job for what would be very little gain.

Welcome, don't ruin your car by removing the whippy, you will regret it

Well if you want to listen to FM on the radio he is absolutely right!

My previous one with whippy worked fine, current one with stubby is a complete waste of time in the shires where I am! :x

Still at least I have a non-standard exhaust to listen to now - tunnels and bridges provide the best sound-track.
