Is it really necessary to purchase the BMW mobility kit or will a portable pump and a can of Fix-a-Flat in the trunk suffice?

There's a similar kit from Tirerack that's supposed to be good.

I have a can of puncture seal - I figure by the time I get the mobility kit out and figured out I would be SOL.

I have had both. The BMW mobility kit is of high quality. The pump worked fast and flawlessly at sever autocross events I particitated in last year. My Coleman was slow, had a highly inaccurate gauge and broke after 3 uses. I suggest the mobility kit.

Thanks for everyone's comments. If I'm going to ditch the RFTs, I better buy the mobility kit. Something tells me a can of Fix-a-Flat won't cut it. By the way, is there a better price than $112 from Roadster Solutions? Also, is the expanded tool kit from LeatherZ for $145 worth buying?

Try your local stealer, I paid $99 plus tax at my local stealer for mine, they gave me 10% discount over their price.

When I had my non-runflats fitted the tyre guy said to go for the Mazda RX-8 unit as its the same thing and half the cost.

Am stalking one on ebay at the moment.

I purchased the Mobility Kit from dealerfit.com for $97.63 plus shipping. Next I'll purchase the jack and tool kit and then I'll ditch the RFTs for the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons!

I have a jack that is supplied with the X5...it works great for the Z but ya gotta be real careful as they have a tricky base. I have the Goodyear GS-D3's for summer fun and carry the BMW mobility kit to get me going. I have never considered that I needed a jack. If one goes flat I use the BMW goop to get me back on the road. I haven't had a flat yet <knocks wood>. I like to put my RFT's for longer trips but haven't and don't think I ever will (I use them for autocross and track). Plus, I still have the BMW road assistance deal.
