BMW major cock up - where do I stand ? M coupe.

if it's had an Insp1 in march 2010, then it's was due an oil service last month according to the 2 year rule. Inspection 2 will be mileage based, but likely between 40 and 60k miles.

It sounds like it would be an oil service, i dont know how the SI works but maybe they can state OIL or INSPECTION and they just set it up with the wrong one?

Spoke to sales manager at said dealership today .

He made some enquiries into the history of the car ..

According to him when the car was in northern Ireland ( previous dealer ) , it had its inspection 1 service in march 2010 and has not been stamped in the book .

He reckons the service indicator which shows "2500 till inspection " will either be an oil service or an inspection 2 ????

Surely the indicator would have been reset if an inspection service was completed and correct me if I'm wrong but 32k is a little early for inspection 2 ?

I'm calling the dealer in Ireland tomorrow with chassis number to get details for myself , the dealer I bought from has said its just a case of sending the service book to them and they will update it accordingly .

Meanwhile I'm left with my trip computer showing 2500 till inspection service , but I'm not actually sure what service ?

Where should I go from here ? Will my local dealer be able to look at my computer and sort things out for me ?

PITA

Thanks .

We've seen this happen a few times on here, lots of dealers forget, get the book stamped and ask your dealer for a discount on the oil service and stop worrying. All the data is in your ecu and key. My Intravee shows me service history on the nav screen.

Get out there and enjoy it!

Panic over.

Turns out inspection service was done In march 2010. Not stamped properly and service indicator not adjusted correctly .

Good news I suppose , I'm now due an oil service ( 2years ), as approved to the inspection as I first thought .

Service book sent and returned updated .

All is good ! Was crapping it a little I must admit !

I'd ask the dealer to contribute to your service due to the hassle !

Just a heads up I've decided to stick my car on pistonheads to gauge interest , nothing to do with this little episode I had been thinking about it for a month or so .

Just to confirm to anyone who may be interested , all services where carried out properly , and book now stamped accordingly . I had the oil and brake fluid done recently ( I think it may have been a few weeks late under the 2 year servicing schedule ) hope that won't put anyone off .

Still has AUC warrenty etc.

Granted its not the cheapest around but as I said I'm gauging interest and in no rush to sell , still have the whole summer :driving: and may not sell at all .

I'm glad to see that there was a positive outcome to your problem jamster, especially as I now find myself in a similar situation.

I bought a 2007 plate 3.0 si in January 2011 from a main dealer through (what I believe was) AUC. I remember at the time the salesman was spouting on about AUC and the fact that the car had service history, 12 months MOT and 12 months AUC warranty. I got caught up in the whole 'buying a z4' and foolishly didn't bother to look into service history in any great detail (yes I know this was stupid), i just wanted the car and put my entire faith in the fact that I was buying from BMW AUC.

When I bought it the car had 26055 miles on it and the inspection counter was saying 'inspection 9000 miles' (as I recall). Since then servicing has been at the back of my mind until last month when I noticed it saying 'Inpection 500 miles'. Unfortunately I've been doing lots of miles recently and not had any time to book it in for a service and it's now showing as 'inspection -475 miles'.

The big problem now though is that I can't find the service book... at all. I don't ever remember even seeing it. So basically I have no idea what service(s) have/haven't been done... Slightly more worrying is that I cant even find any documentation that actually says the car was bought as 'approved used', all I have is an invoice that says 'USED NON-QUALIFYING VEHICLE INVOICE' on it, but I'm not sure what that even means.

I know some of you may read this in disbelief at how I didn't check service details etc. but I kind of bought my car as an impulse purchase, its only now that I'm panicking that I've screwed up... I think back then I thought BMW dealers would be honest and trustworthy, but having loitered on this forum for the last 16 months I've come to learn this is often far from the case.

I'm planning on calling the dealership tomorrow to ask about the service book/history but at this stage I'm not holding out much hope :(

OK since discovered that 'Used Non-Qualifying Vehicle Invoice' relates to VAT... I guess I was starting to convince myself that I'd been duped and the non qualifying was essentially saying 'not qualifying as approved used'.

:slaphead: Despite me searching everywhere... the wife has just managed to find the missing service book.

However, it only says that an oil service was performed at 19700 miles (July 2009). There are no other stamps.

I bought the car in Jan 2010 with 26055 miles on the clock with the inspection counter saying 9000 miles till inspection (which is now on -475), I'm not sure whether it is inspection 1 or 2 thats due???

What type of service was done before the Oil service in July 2009?

My guess would be that you are due an Inspection II, but just go back through the service book and find out what was previously done. It should simply alternate, so Oil Service, Inspection 1, Oil Service, Inspection 2, Oil service, Inspection 1 etc etc.

Cheers Richard

There was only an Oil Service stamped in the book at 19k. So I'm assuming it was an inspection 1 due. It just seems very late considering its now got 38k on the clock?

Anyway I took the car to Trenics last week who performed an inspection 1. I was pleased with the service, I'm just not sure if this will void my extended warranty now so need to read the small print.

Car is now stating Oil service due in 15.8k which ties in with what you said above about the alternating service types.
