Happy 2010 everyone! Heres a nice little nugget. BMW actually has an M Power App for the iPhone. What does it do? Well, its like a G-Tech, it uses the iPhone's sensors in order to calculate:

  • Speed
  • Acceleration
  • Lateral acceleration (Lateral g)
  • Travel time for a specified distance
  • Acceleration to a specific speed

The App comes with three different skins: "Sport", "Lava" and "Midnight"

Here is the link to BMWs M Power iPhone App Page: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicles/mseries/x5m/2009/g_meter.html

Here is the direct link for the App: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/m-performance-meter/id344494968?mt=8

(took thread from another forum, But everyone needs to see this :) )

Thanks for the headsup just downloaded and it's free  ,it's compatible with the Ipod Touch, just need the snow to clear so i can try it out

Nice looking app, thanks for the heads up  Might have to invest in iphone holder now :D

Great way to start the New year, with a new gadget. THANKS for the heads up.

I'm not sure if it will work in my Chev pickup, it may have a Non-BMW sensor built in..... :D

I can't wait to try it.....

i knew i should have got the iphone when i upgraded urghhh, i was put off by the size though, too big for my pocket i thought - i have to carry a works phone also

Has anyone done a 0-60 measurement yet.
I got 4.2 and 4.3 seconds a number of times... :o
Seems a little too quick... :driving:
Also was getting .95 G's accelerations..

LOL same here, two phones, but I'm thinking the same...

I just ordered an upgraded handset yesterday too - couldn't justify the crap tariffs on iPhones and hate big touchscreeen phones anyway, so have a Nokia 6700 classic on the way. Bet there's no M Power App for that

I wonder if the time seems a little shorter because there is no delay at the beginning, the iphone would sense the start of the acceleration rather than you seeing a signal and then reacting.. sound feasible ??

:D I haven't tried it here yet, the pickup is a little slow on the ice

Cant wait to try this out, i bet its way of accurate but good fun messing around with anyway :)

You ask anyone who has an iphone about it and they will start a sales pitch as if Apple had employed them themselves! They are that good.

Reading the reviews on iTunes, it does seem to over estimate the 0-60. Still, its a freebie and more of a fun ap then a serious measuring tool. Anyhow I wont complain if my non ///m 3l zed can do 0-60 in less then 5 sec :D

I've had iPhone for 2 months now and although I've managed customize the phone a bit more now, its phone function is no where near as good as other phones. No customizable predictive text, blutooth cant be switched on/off with short cut (anyone wanna make an app?), ringtones has to be bought (there are 3rd party programs to convert fron CD if you dont mind taking the risk of downloading unknown files), video clips cant be linked to user id (even my old old sony phone from 3 years ago could do this!), if you send SMS to a group of people and it fails half way through and if you "retry" it sends txt again to people in the group who has already got the txt (my mate had 7 same txt from me yesterday as I had to retry so many times).

Alarm will only work if the alarm app is running (i.e. you have to leave it on the alarm and cant use any other apps). The photo album is uneditable on iPhone unless its a photo taken by the phone. Music cannot be sent via blutooth either. Did I mention the camera is stil vastly inferior to current phones?

On the good side, I like grouping of txts & answer phones. Apps are largely good fun, and some are very useful - like shopping list, Sky sport TV, unit converter, emails, weather etc etc. The web browser is decent with wifi as well. Having said that, although I think it is hugely entertaining, there is very little on iPhone I couldn't live without as a phone.

That's why I have an iPod touch and a real phone....and real cameras. :P :P :fuelfire: :)

Aye I was very tempted not to upgrade from c902 - a real gem of a phone with great customizability (unlike my wife's old samsung), sony cybershot 5mp camera, radio, and almost 1/2 the size of iphone!

But just couldn't.... resist..... the.... gadget :D

If women only knew.......the real way to a mans heart is through gadgets, it's our one true failing. I'm trying to collect the most before I die... :D :D :D

Exactly as the one with the most toys wins... :winner:

Yeah, you need to convert it to itune's ringtone format (cant remember what its called), and cut it to <30 sec. I've tried to convert it simply by changing its file name but itunes wouldn't recognise it. In the end I had to use iRinger.exe to cut & convert - done its trick and seems virus free so far.

Cant see why Apple feels the needs to make it difficult for the customers when all the other phones will let you link any music stored on the phone to ringtone.....
