BMW Kit Car?

This isn't really about another marque, it is about the Z3s and a rebody that is available for them. Frankly I think it is an improvement but then I have never liked the Z3 styling much. Apologies if this has been raised before, but what do you think of this? Think of it as clownshoe camouflage.

Looks like a DB5 want to be. Interesting concept but I would like to see more pictures 360 body views and inside. Prior to say ya or na.

I agree that kit cars almost always look odd - wrong rake angles on windshields, chopped short or stretched to suit different wheelbases etc. I never had any time for them until I came across about the only one I ever liked and I bought it (and then totally overhauled it) - a Fiberfab Jamaican on an MGA chassis.

There is a UK kit car manufacturer called DNA (did a lot of Ferrari kits and are considered the best) who about 6 years ago did a kit based on the Z3 for a Ferrari 250 GT California. The workmanship and dimensions were so good that they were shut down by Ferrari lawyers.

Only a dozen or so bodies were completed. I was in talks with DNA to purchase a kit, I was just about to buy a low mileage 3L late Z3 when it all went South. Two of the early cars were built by people and sold at auction for £70k plus!

Look at this video of a completed car! Bear in mind it is a Z3 with a DNA kit and sourced trim and parts. £35k cost all in! I missed the boat by just a few months. :headbang:

The 250 Cali from 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' was also a replica, just not based on a Z3.

The Ferrari 250 California is the most beautiful car in the world, ever, IMO.

There is a DNA kit reportedly around somewhere which has not been built, but I can't find it. :x

The link was a company who buy kits from 'Tribute Automotive'. They make lots of kits, but their quality isn't good and they have had wranglings with Ferrari lawyers too.

It is supposed to be a copy of the Ferrari 250 GTO, or SWB. Because Ferrari get a bit 'precious' of maintaining the values of their rarest vehicles, the kit was changed at the front end to mimic another model to keep the lawyers at bay. There were so may models of the '60s era, that maybe a few were actually made like that.

I'll take the standard Z3 look. The lights on that kit are just too goofy for my taste.

Yeah, the headlights are a bit odd. And not quite like the original:

This would make a nice body kit:

That thing bears absolutely NO resemblance to the magnificent Ferrari 250 GTO at all :o
The rear however does look quite similar to the Ferrari 250 GT SWB.

However, much more reminiscent of an Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato rear. The side window treatment too1961_Aston_Martin_DB4_GT_Zagato_-_rvr.jpg
The front also looks more Zagato to me

Some DB5 influence too definitely in the headlights, bonnet scoop and wing mirrors

The dashboard/instrument binnacle is also VERY DB5

It even has similar wing vents, chrome Zagato-like Zs and a VERY Aston Martin'esque winged badge on the grille

That does look lovely.

I bought a Z3 hardtop off a guy in Croydon once and he was converting a 2.8 into a GTO IIRC. Looked amazing and very difficult to see it as a kit car, especially as the interior was bespoke as opposed to lift-and-shift from a '99 plate Z3.
