Well, I have had a week at home which is something I don't often get.
I decided that it was time to take some Test Drives! Just wanted to share my opinions..

First was the New Z4 - only the 25i but it gave me a good idea of what BMW have done. I was very impressed and can only speculate how good the 35i will be.
I was a little shocked at the size of the boot space available when the roof is down but a bit of reading on here shows that with the "Through Luggage" option it isn't all bad.
I loved the suspension settings and that Sport + turns off the Traction Control. The roof is really good, just like a coupe inside and so much better than the soft top.

After that I went for a drive in a 2005 Boxster S. A car I have never really liked the look of but for obvious reasons had to have a go.
I felt that it was very plasticy - dare I say it.. cheap.
The engine and the drive were out of this world but it is not a car I would be comfortable in.
I think possibly I want a 911 too much and don't want to settle for 2nd best just yet.

Finally... 2007 Z4M
What a car! I have the 3.0 at the moment but was so surprised at the differances. The M seats are fantastic, the engine note adictive and the whole package perfect.
It was raining today so I had to be super carefull - can't wait to start looking a bit more seriously.

I think I will have to wait for January now but it is the "M" that is top of the list :driving:

I loved my 3.0Si and thought I was going to keep it for many years. Then a horrible nasty dealer threw me the keys to a Z4MC and asked if I wanted to take it for a drive. That car was no good for me as the colour was wrong inside and out, high miles, no satnav, no cupholders etc but what a drive. It felt like BMW had taken a Z4 and asked - what's wrong with this? Answer - nothing. OK, then, how do we make it so much better that some guy we suck in with a Z4 will say "here - have my wife, children and mistress so I can have one of those"

Past cars have included a Boxster. Not sure why the press rave about them. I liked it, it was better put together than a Z4 and a very clever package overall but the drive was less than inspiring. It reminded me of an old Karmann Ghia with a lot more power.

Totally agree, I am completly taken by the MZ4, just need to save a few more coins now....

I'm so glad I read this!! I had always planned on trying out the M in the near future just to see what I was missing...

Definately not going to do this now. Sounds like it could be an expensive mistake to test drive!

I have zero will power. Zero.

You know there's only one thing for it... :driving:

Go on. Go on. GO ON!!!!! You'll be a hero among men. Do it.

I know people who spend more on drink and drugs than the extra it costs me to own an M over my previous Z4C.

Just as addictive but it's only the traffic cops that give you hassle.

HAppened to me. was looking at the 3.0si, moving from 2.5i, nealry got one but following the crash last september the dealer(non-BMW) decided he cant part exchage. Pissed off. So decided will keep the 2.5i, suddenly one day just went to the local BMW, got to try the M when they were working on my car. What a drive, resultant i've an M- never looked back, amazing.

It's a sad and all too common story I'm afraid :) I had a new 2.5 si sport, I'd convinced myself it was all the sports car I needed, lovely engine, nice colour (black) quick enough, good balanced handling, then one day I went to te BMW dealers with my mate who was thinking of buying a 3 series.

Ooh a red 'M' with all the toys and look at the price!!! Wonder what it drives like?? 'Just a bit quicker than a standard 3 litre I suppose' I said to the dealer. He just smiled and said 'I'll give you a good part ex on your car' test drive followed and the car just blew me away. Still love the whole 'occasion' of driving it three years later.

On 2nd thaughts.... DON'T BUY AN M..!
Flood the market with unwanted ones, drop the prices and I will get one in February
