BMW iPod/iPhone kit

Hi Leon, just fitted mine which i purchased off the board (VvrooomM), fairly straightforward once you start, took me around an hour and ten minutes to be honest, by the time i'd been backwards and forwards fetching sharper tools (pointed tweezers for the wires) etc. Fed my ipod lead through the hole by the strut in the glovebox so no drilling. I'm really really pleased, steering wheel controls etc working with it. Glad i chose this option :D

cheers

Phil

hi Leon,

No it does'nt as std but in the kit was a small adapter which fits on the end of the ipod lead which then enables it to charge (which it does, i'll get the name in a few mins and add on here, poss £10 off ebay?), its my wifes phone so i'm not sure which model it is  (i think its one of the first ones). She hasn't set up the playlists (BMW1, BMW2 etc) yet either so it just plays songs at random, so when you flick through the steering wheel controls or radio controls it selects any next song. Not sure if this applies to you but i had to remove the white multi plug that was in the back of the radio to fit the white multiplug that comes off the ipod unit loom. I believe the one i took off (disconnected but still there) is for a cd multi changer, i dont have one fitted but i think its pre wired). It took me quite a few minutes looking at the wiring deciding which ones the instructions meant, but VvrooomM supplied me with additional info which helped a lot, ask any questions you want while its still fresh in my mind or i can copy the ones i have and send them to you.

cheers
Phil
Edit - this is what i fitted, seen them a lot cheaper than this but at least you know what i mean.

Edit 2 - forgot to add, if the phone rings or you get a text message it "dims" the sound of the music which i think is quite cool.

Just tried this and it plays but does not charge as you said! :( the link says that's £29.99 is there another alternative like re wiring or another adaptor?

Thanks

Do a search on ebay for 'ipod 5v adapter' - you'll see a gaggle of them ... :)

Just a quickie I thought you see the song names etc on the BMW LCD when you have this connected? Mine does not?

Also is it important to disconnect the cd changer when using this?

on the businesss radio/cd you do not see the id tags (names), this is why i got rid of mine

You don't get track info unless via a cd on later headunits 2007+ I think, never via iPod unless using intravee or such like.

I need help please: just took out the iPod cable and put everything back and the cd player is not turning on!

1 of the metal clip things is a bit chewed up though from when I couldn't get it out, I had to rewire the 3 coloured cable and slot it back in but still won't work! Anyone know where I can get a new metal slot thingy from and also does this look right?

The connection to the back of the radio is audio only, it won't have any effect on the CDC powering up. Check the 3 pin connector to the CD Changer and the fuses.

coming to think of it i forgot to disconnect the battery and the 3 wires touched each other and fumes came off them!!

do you think this would blow a fuse then?

sorry. it was the 30 amp fuse that blew! cant believe the bmw dont come with spares!! need a trip down to the shops :headbang:
