the only way to hide your public ip address would be to route your connection through an Anonymous Proxy Server, I dont really see it as an issue unless your trying to do something illegal, just ensure you have a hardware firewall.

Shipkiller,
I'm thinking to get the Auto Enginuity with the BMW enhanced interface. I have a couple questions:
1) will it clear the adaptaitons in the DME?
2) I was reading somewhere they were working on adding the car & key memory functions: can you do this with your version? Do you have any update on it?
Thanks

Yes, it will clear the DME engine adaptations and error codes. I am not sure about the car/key memory. I am not close to my car/AutoEnginutiy (travel for work) and will not be back in town until July.

Can't drive my Zed until then.... :headbang:

Thanks, I'm gonna call them up tomorrow and ask them... I actually have a couple other question about the Z3: not sure if you can diagnose & activate the DISA solenoid on the M44 (is not listed in the sensors list) and if you gan read both the pre-cat and after cat O2 voltage.
But if it does the car & key memory, I think it's already a deal...

On the Z4, you can dynamically read the Pre/Post Cat O2 sensors (B1S1, B2S1, B1S2 and B2S2) That is how I figured out the my pre-cat O2 sensors were bad but not throwing a code...

Thanks a lot Shipkiller.
After a brief exchange of emails with their tech support I came to the conclusion that at this point for me the Auto Enginuity wouldn't be very useful
1) it cannot do the car and key memory programming on the Z4: they are working on it but that would require a new hardware.
2) their coverage for my Z3 is very limited: the M44 was one of the few 4 cylinders engines sold by BMW in the US and uses a competely different set of sensors and DME than the 6es. I wouldn't get much infos out of it.
The Z4 is under CPO so I don't really need a diagnostic tool yet.
I'll keep an eye on eBay for a GT1: I was reading BMW is switching to a competely new diagnostic system that will replace GT1. I will tell my dealer to keep me posted on it and hopefully once the new diag comes live all the old GT1 would flud the market...
