BMW Insured Warranty?

not as sizeable as a great whacking £460 for a new water pump! I saw in another thread you'd made where you just put 2 sets of tyres on both your cars, so i think i'll sleep easy at night with a tenner a week coming out my account :D

Just got my paperwork through today, im paying £43 a month with £100 pound excess incuding BMW assist, thats on an E89 28i with 17K on the clock

There`s a thread I started a while ago regarding this http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=75309

For mine (a 28i) on a monthly basis including BMW Assistance its :-

£60 with 0 excess

£43 with 100 excess

£35 with 250 excess

Without BMW Assist it was about £7 less

Has anyone purchased one of these BMW Warranties:

https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Start

If so has anyone made a claim against it, what was the outcome.

Are they worth it.

Cheers.

I had the cover until I recently changed my car. - piece of mind for the roof / gearbox etc as I do high miles. E89, 100k mile ++ . Cover was £40 per month. never needed to use it.

Ok, so if my waterpump fails in the first year, thats paid for, and the labour & effort thats involved in doing it , plus i get a courtesy car, also, mines in the last day of production with the sticky steering (29-06-06) so it's piece of mind for me :)

Bet you have to pay for the insurance on the courtesy car though, if they gave one available. Only if you have the recovery option and the car is undriveable so is recovered will they put you in a car.

I've paid the BMW warranty for the last three years. I'm not bothering this year and they're chasing me like mad...

True. I have a daily mk4 golf diesel though so not too fussed, would be nice to abuse the bottom off a new loaner though :D

£37 a month for My 08 coupe for fully comp. I've had a new alternator, new idler pully, 2 x new lambda sensors and the biggest was a replacement oil seal between clutch and gbox, this also included a new clutch due to oil contamination. No idea on the costs for these repairs but at a main dealer it must be pushing £3k?

Broken rear springs are not covered (I tried ) neither are misted fogs.

I think most of the experience depends how easy going the dealer is as they are the case holders. I've taken my car in 3 times for a horrible engine whine in lower gears. First time they changed the idler pulley, 2nd time the alternator. Noise still present but they then tried to say it's normal. I've waited another nine months (noise is louder) and they are having a look whilst it's in for inspection 2.

For me peace of mind is worth it... I decided I wanted a warranty after my vw tdi blew up costing me £3k... whilst the Z4 is not a tdi things can and do still go wrong. ..

£48 a month for my 07 roadster. Took it out for peace of mind, so far claimed along more than I have paid in. The bigest item has been the ABS pump which ws replaced at £2400. Also had the MAF and Vanos solenoids replaced which comes in close to 3K

I've got nothing on my Zed but I do pay £56 on my 5 series which hurts and I'm considering cancelling it.

I wouldnt mind if it was actually a proper extended warranty - i.e like the no quibble warranty you get in the first 3 years, where if anything goes wrong you take it in and it's sorted FOC.
However, these 'extended' warranties are basically insurance policies and whilst this and that is covered, everything involved in diagnosing it and getting to it generally isn't. I think that if your service schedule is up-to-date, you should be able to continue on the original warranty basis. You end up in the situation whereby, they tell you they will take the car in and look at it, but if they dont find the cause, or its X instead of Y, then we will have to charge you.
You then end up wondering whether to let them look at it, or waiting for that call when you get "I'm sorry Sir ...." and not believing them.

Typical Example...
"Yes, your engine is covered Sir" ...but they'll still charge you to refill it with oil as only the engine is covered and you'll need a new gasket, plugs, etc, etc. To my idea, if anything else needs replacing as a result of the original failure, then it should all be included and not squirmed out of on the technicality that "Oil is a consumable Sir, and we dont cover consumables" ...Put the old oil back in then !
You just end up in a ridiculous debate with them.

Thing is the ABS pump can be repaired for less than £600 from memory, so at £2,400 BMW really are taking the piss.

I have it - had my camshafts and a seized calliper done on it (£6k+) - worth it for me!

When you say you had the camshaft done, what were the symptoms (ticking noise or spun bearing) and what did they replace?

Edit: found your post - ticking noise

I successfully claimed for the roof motor on my E85 and as the roof mech and other systems on the E89 seem to be more complex, I bought a warranty fo the current car.

Not sure about coil springs, I'd imagine they would be classed as wear and tear.
I had both coil springs replaced on my car under the Extended Warranty. I was told that they replace both springs on an ///M but only the broken spring on the other cars.

There is a huge list of exclusions from the Extended Warranty, with very many items being classed as "trim", "glass" or "wear and tear". Since BMW stopped underwriting the scheme themselves and handed it over to an insurance company, my experience (bsed not just on the Z4, but also my M5 and my wife's MINI Cooper S) is that it is much harder to get any claim accepted - even items that were clearly covered were rejected at first, and only agreed after I challenged them.

There is also a degree of inconsistency among BMW dealers - there are many reports of E85 roof motors being rejected under warranty, while some people have had them agreed. There doesn't seem to be any logic behind which are agreed and which are rejected.

Nope, BMW replaced both mine when only one had failed on my old 2.5Si.

From memory it was around 3 years old with 21k on it.

As ronk has said it open to dealer interpretation and I believe how good your relationship with them is.
