BMW Insured Warranty

Quick quesiton,

I have the Comprehensive Insured Warranty from BMW on my '07 2.0l Z4. Just wondering if it covers the roof motor failing due to blocked drains. I can't find mention of the roof on the warranty website.

Thanks!

It should yes. It's consumables and wear parts that it doesn't, also trim things like that. The roof is electrical and intrinsic therefore should be covered. Just ask your dealer.

My dealer's Service Advisor (who I have a very good relationship with) told me that there was no way that my Extended Warranty would cover roof motor replacement if the cause was blocked drain holes. This wouldn't surprise me - BMW Warranty Services seem to be wriggling out of any claims that they can these days. I've had the Extended Warranty on my M5's for a number of years, and it has become much harder to get a claim approved recently.

On the other hand, at least one person on here has persuaded BMW to replace the motor on the grounds that (1) clearing out the drain holes did not form part of any preventative maintenance recommended by BMW and (2) it is not a feasible job to expect the "average" Z4 owner to carry out, especially given how inaccessible one of the drain holes is.

I'd ask your local dealer - it does seem to vary from dealer to dealer.

Don't ask, tell. If you ask they'll give you the answer they want to.

The drains are most definitely not on the preventative maintenance schedule, it's down to the dealer to maintain so if the car's been serviced to schedule it's a fair warranty claim. The fact that they get clogged shows a design flaw for a car that is designed to be used in Europe with European weather.
