BMW Insured Warranty

Just got a letter from BMW with a price to extend my warranty, they are offering £427 for a year comprehensive with BMW emergency Service and a £100 excess. I have a 3.0 si Sport Coupe, is it a good move to extend the warranty with the known problem with the N52 engine tapping noise. My car only gets used at the weekends and only has 22,000 miles on it so I think I may be at risk? Would hate to get a problem just out of warranty.

Do you think it's possible to knock them down on price? Has anyone been able to do this?

Wow, that's a good price. I just paid £920 for a year for the Alpina...

[Edit] That was for the fully comp, no recovery, £100 excess, 54 plate car, FBMWSH and 35K miles

All depends if you feel you need the peace of mind?

*touch wood* I have never needed to use a warranty with BMW, so wouldn't spend additional cash on it...

I guess the parts are cheaper more common for a standard car than an Alpina

Don't suppose you tried nailing them down on price?

I did, even though it's a second car. I just can't afford for anything major to go bang :)

Fair call. My E46 3 series was an AUC with warranty etc. Nothing went wrong. Saying that, knowing my luck something will break on the zed next week

I've received a renewal notice about mine today DESPITE the fact that I apparently haven't had any cover for the last 9 months! I bought my car in April 2010 with the AUC warranty of 1 year. Didn't choose to renew it last April (wasn't given the chance) and have just had a renewal letter through the post telling me to decide by 16th February.

Tempted to take it, but how does it sit if you've had work done elsewhere or have made any mods? Would I be better going for something like a Warranty Direct policy?

BMW will not budge on price, unless they have changed their stance since I last spoke to them.

they won.t fix the fault under normal warranty so what's the chance on extended warranty?

It's more difficult than it used to be to make successful claims but reasoned and persistent argument pays dividends. Bar the expected wear and tear exceptions I've had pretty much every fault I've complained about rectified. I've just had approval for the replacement of my catalytic converter to cure a heatshield rattle. The cost at normal prices is a staggering £1400 plus labour. You won't get every fault covered under the BMW extended warranty but they do cover much more than a third party warranty would.

I agree with you dgm and never had a problem myself. However the hva issue is well known by BMW now so much harder to get resolved.

Warranty Direct were more expensive than BMW on mine (by about £100). I'm told that if you go to the dealer they'll haggle but I was happy with the quote and bought it. Horses for courses I guess. As I said, having bought the car I can't afford a major failure. And as I negotiated well over the warranty cost off the asking price, I'm happy. For what I got off the asking price I can afford the wheel refurb (Lepsons) the minor wear and tear marks on the body, and a full paint correction detailing to be done. Alpina ownership for less than the VW dealer paid for my Golf Edition 30 when they bought it back from me.

as the HVA problem is well known to BMW it amazes me that they are so awkward about it :headbang: why can they just not accept it and rectify it

I thought you were getting yours sorted? Maybe it was someone else?

If BMW know about the problem surely it should be less hassle. Not sure if I'll bother if it won't help get the problem sorted

Well it's almost decision time and it doesn't sound bad when you consider it includes emergency breakdown cover. With £100 excess it's £427 and £0 excess it's £520i'm leaning towards the £427 option but just wanted some opinions

Renewed mine today, 0 excess but without breakdown, costs £41 a month. Used it plenty on my M3 and the piece of mind knowing I wasn't facing a huge bill was worth while in my opinion.

I have my car in for an MOT this Saturday just before the existing warranty runs out so hopefully if anything like springs are broken they will do under manufacturers warranty

How much would a spring cost to replace? if it does go after manufacturers warranty this info would help my decision ref excess
