BMW Insured Warranty, Servicing, Inspection II, etc.

Thought this may be useful for a few people on here who have AUC or Mondial Insured Warranty (essentially the same thing).

I am due an Ins II in approximately 1k miles and thought i had to get my car serviced at a BMW main dealer this has now been changed to a VAT registered garage (confirmed by phone and through a quick search online).

The best quotes i could get for an Ins II from a main dealer were approximately £750-800 + the brake fluid change.

The best quote i have so far for the above from a specialist is £650 all in or £570 if i bring my own oil.

This might save a few people some cash in the future whilst helping them maintain their warranty.

They aren't really the same, as the list of exclusions for the Insured Warranty (which is, as the name implies, an insurance policy underwritten by AGA/Mondial) is much longer than that for the AUC (which is underwritten by BMW UK). It is also, in my experience, much more difficult to claim under the Insured Warranty than under the AUC warranty.

Regarding servicing requirements, the Policy Handbook for the BMW Insured Warranty which is online at http://www.bmw.co.uk/dam/brandBM/ma...arranty-291112.pdf.download.1373958020731.pdf says:

What must I do to keep the Warranty valid?

The terms and conditions of the warranty listed below must be adhered to. Failure to do so will result in the rejection of a claim or the termination of your BMW Insured Warranty. This does not affect your statutory rights.

1. When servicing your BMW, failure to comply with the service schedule recommended by BMW may invalidate this warranty. All service and warranty work must be carried out by an Authorised BMW Dealer or BMW Service Authorised Workshop using only Genuine BMW Parts. Your BMW Service Booklet should be stamped, dated and detailed with the correct mileage at the time of service by the servicing dealer.

This is the actual legal warranty agreement between you and BMW that you sign up to when you purchase the Insured Warranty. Do you have a (written/published) source which says that you can use a non-authorised dealer to carry out the servicing?
 
I know of the additional exclusions but the same applies.

I rang Mondial directly as I have seen lots on them changing it recently and they confirmed it and they confirmed as long as cars are serviced as per BMW guidelines they can re-enter onto the warranty scheme.

They are happy to provide this in writing if you request it... Plenty of posts online confirming this too.

The number I rang was 08456419790 . I'll ring again tomorrow and ask for an email confirmation and then post it up when (if) I get it :)
 
OP, how old is your car. If it's under three years, then yes you can take it where you like. However as ZedFourM has said with the Insured Warranty BMW force you to use BMW service department.

I'm not aware of any legislation that has changed this.
 
September 2006... Spoke to them today and they specifically stated that it was a VAT registered garage although proof will be required (receipt, etc) my car is in the second year of the AUC warranty and I also spoke to them about extending the warranty, etc when it lapses in July this year as I like things sorted well in advance (but can't renew until the last month).

I asked what the servicing requirements were with no prompts and was told "VAT registered garage" to which I replied "not main dealer" and they said "nope VAT registered is the only requirement".

I'll try and get a copy of the T&C's with a specific reference or email confirmation for the benefit of doubt .

I thought it was main dealer only and warranty was the same but maybe they have altered it hence the number of AUC cars coming up with specialists having carried out the servicing... Pure speculation but a possibility.
 
BMW can sell cars that have been serviced by indi's under AUC and always have done. Likewise you can buy a car privately which has or hasn't been serviced by BMW and stick a BMW warranty on it.

The above policy quote is from the BMW website though and you would assume to be correct.
