BMW in accident

Can someone tell me what a Z4 is supposed to do in an accident?? I mean as far as battery disconnecting, doors unlock, things like that for saftey and if all that is supposed to work like that when hit from behind.

Doors unlock. If you brake hard enough they do it then as well ...

Fuel pump breaker trips for sure - not sure about doors, battery etc.

How bad of an accident for this stuff to happen? I knew about the doors but nothing else. Would it likely be a bad enough accident that the car wouldn't be driveable anyways?

According to the brochure:

battery terminal is exploded off
doors unlock
interior light comes on
hazard warning flashers come on.

Fuel pump should also cut.

I was hit by an 18 wheeler (rearended) 4X, he pushed me 180 ft. We were at a stop light and he just hit the gas!!!! yes 4X.

My Z4 did NONE of that, :(

WHAT GIVES???

DO I NEED MY ATTORNEY TO CONTACT BMW of NA??

Is the Z supposed to do all that no matter where you're hit? I did read that in the manual, but wasn't sure since I was hit from behind.

Anymore info would be appreciated
Thanks

Sorry to hear about your Z4 been reared 4X. What caused the other driver to be so MAD? ...Hope he/she has been apprehended by the law. Anyway, how well did the Z4 took the impact structurally? Is it as solid of a car as it is rumored to be? ..any pics to share?

If there was not any sudden sharp impact to trigger the shock/impact sensors, nothing may happen. If the semi was near your bumper and the impact itself was minor, I can see him pushing you a long way without setting anything off.

The trucker was NOT apprehended, nothing was done to him at all. He hit me very hard 3X. The first hit, there was about 15 ft between us.

I guess he didn't like Z's......hmmmm

The Z's are a very well built car, His truck was about 3 ft from my head, it was resting on my trunk. He pushed the rear fender out, scraped & gouged the trunk pretty, flat spots on the tires & cracked bumper.

I have the car back, but haven't driven it anywhere yet.

I'm sorry to hear about your accident but I'm glad that you are not injured. I don't understand how and why the trucker hit you 4X's, especially from a traffic light and he didn't even receive a traffic citation? That is bizarre! In any event, I hope your Z4 is repaired back to its original condition. With regards to the vehicle's failure to trigger the safety features, I would first inform your dealer and also your insurance adjuster. Perhaps this can all be sorted out when the vehicle is repaired. You may even luck out if the insurance company totals your car out and replaces it with a brand new Z4. What year and model do you have?

Cliff3's car did all that and called BMW Assist, but his was in a roll-over accident. I would think that if hazel's air-bags didn't deploy, the sensors didn't see the accident as sever enough.

What's the point of the interior light and hazard flashers turning on if the battery terminal has exploded off? :tumbleweed:

According to my brochure it is only the starter cable (ignition) that is disconnected, hence the lights would still work.

I would love to take credit for that one, but it was actually a mini-owner (owner of a mini, not a midget!) that just pointed the technicality out to me

I appreciate all the responses. I was injured, neck, back, leg & foot. Am now going for MRI's & PT. No open wounds or broken bones.

The collision repair shop did say they had to take my Z to BMW dealer to have airbag light turned off, the airbag never came out. So what caused the light to come on?

Witnesses & myself thought the accident was severe.

The reason the truck driver was not fined was because the state police said it was a "NON REPORTABLE ACCIDENT" WHAT!!!!!!!
I ended up in the ER.

That makes more sense...the bit about the battery, not the midget :D
