It does bode, well for the next generation of hybrid cars, but I think BMW have brought this to the market too early. As above. There isn't a lack if performance. I could barely keep up in the damp in a e92 m3 gts at the weekend. Far from a slow car. Infact I bet a lot of cars would struggle as the tourque out of the corners is just insane
Price wise, the base level is exactly the same as my new car, but I would not want to spend that on something unproven with unknown long term costings though - especially as I have no plans to ever sell my car so long term reliability and costs are important.

155 mph limited and 0-60 in 4.4 is hardly 'lack of performance'.
I guess if I had an odd 95k to spend, on a third or forth car, it's adequate. But personally I'd be looking for more performance and grin factor, for that much money. Probably why I've never bought a new car. I'd be looking at this sort of thing.

I certainly would not buy an i8 at that sort of money (even if I had it), but an 11 year old Lambo for more money - I think not, given the eye watering bills to keep it running.
I too stopped buying new cars over a decade ago. Pointless depreciation costs, but guess these are going to folks with lots of money no worries, fantastic design and a nod to environmental stuff.

Was in convoy with an i8 (black & white) and i3 (light grey, mid grey & dark grey) last night on the M6, coming back home from London.
The i8 certainly had some poke when the traffic cleared (seemed to get to 140mph quite easily), and looked gorgeous from the rear. The i3 looked a bit 'utilitarian' and boxy. But I supposes that's just showing what their respective roles are.

I suspect there could be some I8 watering bills too. If you have the money then I'm sure you can afford the bills. They both look fantastic.
So for me it's simply the performance, driving fun, I like, as apose to some of the finer things in life, that the I8 undoubtably provides in spades.
This has got future classic written all over it in large capital letters.
